I've only ever known rissoles as mince meat mixed with various finely chopped and grated vegies, usually carrot and onion, and formed into patties and fried.

My wife often makes Yorkshire puds to go with roast beef, and sometimes with roast lamb (a more common event here in Oz!) - the boys really like them. It's really a pauper's potato, meant to extend the meat as much as possible by soaking up the gravy.

Vindaloo is my favourite curry, but it's of Portuguese/Indian origin - it's name is derived from Portuguese and refers to the vinegar and garlic in the curry sauce. I don't mind a Madras curry either.

Hi Steph. Vindaloo...refers to vinegar and potato (aloo). Its a very hot curry! Not for the faint-hearted.

What about aromatic crispy duck? Yum!

For the most part, English food is forgettable, but British food is wonderful, since it takes in the British Empire, including India. The best Lebanese food we've ever had, we ate in London. We ordered the entire menu.......for the four of us, and we all got samples of everything they made. It was awesome.

    1. Roast potato's. Yup. Good stuff.
    2. Liver and onions. Good, but better done Greek style, with tons of garlic, lemon juice, and oregano.
    3. Yorkshire pudding. Really good. We call them popovers.
    4. Devilled kidneys. Haven't tried.
    5. Steak and kidney pie. Haven't had it.
    6. Fish and chips. What we had in England was greasy, but tasty.
    7. Breast of pigeon. Like it.
    8. Vindaloo. I can't believe Venice didn't know this one. It's an East Indian hot curry sauce, on lamb or chicken or whatever. Love it.....love it.
    9. Roast lamb. love it
    10. Stilton blue cheese. Very good. I like it a lot.

My special favorite is Spotted Dick. We were "on the floor" when the pub waitress offered it to us. But it is really wonderful.

I think you are right Mulan!

Chicken Tikka Masala is the most popular dish in the UK! Indian restaurants outnumber fish and chip shops by some margin.

    1. Roast potato's (sic)- In my version I microwave the spuds, coat with olive oil and maybe some herbs and/or spices, then finish in the BBQ for 45min - Devine

    2. Liver and onions - Ugrghh... no I don't go for organs... reminds me of the bloke I met over there who caught hedgehogs in the street, boiled them in their blood and made gravy out of the remaining liquid... No wonder the elders didn't let him get dunked... Notice that delicacy didn't make the list of British fare...

    3. Yorkshire pudding - Yeah, my grandmother made them... don't mind one occasionally on roast night at the Tavern

    4. Devilled kidneys.- Bluughh... But that's a childhood aversion

    5. Steak and kidney pie. - so is maggot and offal in a bag - don't mind a chicken & veggie pie though

    6. Fish and chips - my favourte comfort food. Best with a side serve of KFC Coldslaw

    7. Breast of pigeon. - never gone for the game meats, havn't tried pigon though. I would try swan.

    8. Vindaloo. Well, goodness gracious me... Food of the gods... though I haven't had a British version...

    9. Roast lamb. I rate sheep meat very lowly as my mother used to fry to death the very cheapest mutton chops at home. That vile smell has haunted me ever since... But roast pork or beef - yeah... that's excellent

    10. Stilton blue cheese - Nuh... (Childhood again...)

My wife had steak and kidney pie in Windsor, Canada (across the river from Detroit). I tryed a bite and liked it. On another occasion, my wife visited Windsor with my mother, and convinced my mother to try it - she had some reservations. My mother liked it so well that she had it the second night of their stay there.

liver - I don't care for beef liver, but I like fryed chicken livers. I also like chicken liver patee (sp?) on crackers.

I like lamb chops, but not leg of lamb.

I haven't had the opportunity to try the other things, but I will try any new food once.

Princess, why do you think that dove would be yukky. I thought that all birds would be good tasting. Heck, dogs, cats, and horses might be good for all I know.
