Jeff, I saw native americans too. I thought of Dances with Wolves, actually. Not really the same, cuz he wasn't sent to betray them... but the fact that he came around to their way of thinking after spending time with them, instead of just listening to the hype.

I watched it at the cinema in 3d and fell asleep about 3 times as it was so boring and utterly lacking any kind of story, apart from basically being a rip off of pocahontas, i can't believe that people in 2010 are still impressed by computer special effects. I'd take a film with a story any day over a plotless, predictable, computer generated film
I tried to watch this movie, but found the story tedious and tired. When my wife and I finally walked out about half way through I told her that it was Dances With Wolves in CGI.
Stephen Lang (Ike Clanton from Tombstone) did a stellar job. When he finally buys the farm, you want to cheer
LOL me too!! A villain you love to hate. There are definite points about the US in the Middle East and the quest for oil at all costs in my opinion.
I enjoyed the hell out of it. Saw it for the first time last weekend on DVD.

There's quite a great deal of commentary online vis-a-vis the good, the bad and the ugly of JC's film and what both proponents and detractors declare to be the extravaganza's underpinnings. Of course, the story is derivative. You might, among other things, be interested in the alleged significance of the blue skin of the Na'vi.
So much to ponder, so little time ...

ZombieDub - what's wrong with special effects? Beats un-special effects. No one expects a movie like this one to be plot-thick. Many great movies had predictible action and plot. Lot's of film critics seemed to like it - as well as millions of fans who watched it in premier. When your plot rich movie premiers, let us know.

Great point CC. Pondering the more cerebral undertones of this movie is fascinating. Those who find it boring and dry perhaps see all red wine as similar?

That's funny, Jeff. Sorry my opinion offended you, but Avatar was a poorly written rip-off of Dances With Wolves. Simple as that. Don't take it personal that there are people who are not astounded by typical Hollywood pablum.
