Aren't there a lot more born-ins than converts (at least in the United States, probably in U.K. as well)?

So, statistically, it would be likely more born-ins would leave...

I was a convert to the JW's at the age of 20. My now ex-husband came into the JW's with me and I stayed in 30 years and awoke and left it. I think converts tend to believe more strongly simply because it is necessary in order to convert in the first place. Born in don't feel the compulsion to believe since they are raised in it. I would say that more converted ones stay in. Looking back at the JW I'd say about 1/3 of each group stay in.

According to the WTS there is only one generation

Yes, but it's an overlapping generation. My lap is less zealous than my parents lapping...and the lapping occuring behind me is even less zealous.

"Possibly because as a child they would have missed out on so much and would not wish this on their children. My husband said he has never wanted children because of the upbringing he had. ..."

Boy, does that ever hit the nail on the head...

I was dragged into the cult, kicking and screaming, at the age of 5.

I saw enough of "Worldly" life before having Halloween, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, and the like taken away from me, that it caused a rankling anger within me, and I never totally accepted the religion...

My poor brother,on the other hand, is totally "born in", and he's trapped, desperately and horribly trapped within the cult. Both of my parents [who were dumb enough to "convert"...] are still 'in' and have a sick, emotionally incestuous control over him, so he's NEVER going to escape...

But my impression is that "born-ins" are likely to become dissatisfied with their lives within the cult because it WASN'T THEIR CHOICE to be a Jehovah's Witness... As they learn more about the world - IF they ever do - it would increase their dissatisfaction to the point that they might escape...

IF they weren't too brainwashed or bullied by the fear-mongering to look around and gain outside information...
