or are they presuming that once everything is cleansed they can put their feet up while 'jehovah' lays on takeaways housing and instant toilets?
In the new world our poop will be perfect, made of chocolate ice cream in the summer to keep us cool and provide a delicious treat and in the winter it will be warm banana nut bread.

The Watchtower is not alone in their fear-mongering and always focusing on the bad news. The mainstream media is guilty of the same. Look at Fox News, or the local 6:00 News. What do you see? Not much else besides suffering, violence, war, etc., and when its not those things its the total focus on nonsense. Then there is the sensationalism. How many women are abducted and killed every day, but for months and months at a time we were fed nothing but Scott Peterson, OJ Simpson, or Joran van der Sloot.
There are many, many good things taking place in the world, having to do with environmental cleanup, preserving endangered species, reduction in violent crime in many places, and most importantly, a growing faction of "elite" who are against the Dark Cabal, the old energy of the Illuminati that has been controlling the world's finances through central banks and the oil industry.
The Iron Curtain fell because of a shift in human consciousness. Little by little, selfishness, greed, and enslavement will no longer be tolerated by that consciousness. There's a new energy coming, one of benevolence and good will towards all. A return to the respect for basic human rights. In that sense the Bible and its prophecies are correct. There really is a Golden Age coming, the Reign of Christ. Not the reign of a man, but the reign of Christ Consciousness, which is "Service to Others" and "Love thy Neighbor".

I'm somewhat concerned about the direction of this country. Lately I wonder if we're headed for some kind of civil war, or even a race war. The potential of it is evident by race relations and seperatist movements in the Southwest, particulary California, Texas, Utah, and Arizona. Granted, I'm speaking mostly about the criminal underworld and extremists. I believe criminals and extremists are a reflection of mainstream thoughts and beliefs that civil people are disciplined enough to keep quiet about. Criminals and extremists lack the sophistication to behave and keep their thoughts to themselves. Lately though, with your Sarah Palins, Fox News, Tea Parties, Olbermans, MSNBC, etc, this country is getting warmed up. Its as if there's a bridging of the gap between extremists and mainstremists. We're losing respect for others and civility. There is a deterioration of morals, respect, self respect, manners, love, etc.. Eventually somethings got to give. With all that said, it plays a role into why I'm hesitant to completely write off fundamentalists as being wrong about the world being messed up. It is messed up, and its going to get worse.
At the same time I see Undercover's points about this world always having its rough moments. An argument can be made that its better to be alive now than any other time frame. Thats a fact with advances in medicine, technology, communication, etc.. Even though the previous paragraph I stated race relations are tense, there have been positive changes. Unfortunately I find it hard to believe those advancements will overshadow the current trends of what I mentioned in the first paragraph. I guess time will tell.

You get out of the world pretty much what you put into it.

My husband says this stuff daily. My response, from a christian perspective, is "if you are a follower of Christ, who cares when it happens?"
I think its ok to watch for signs around the world, but why be obsessed? You still have to work, eat, sleep, etc. You have to get up everday, so you may as well be happy about it. Not everything is horrible, look at the good things.
The media is not objective journalism anymore. Sensationalism sells, journalism is a competive market like any other business. Extremeism is on the rise, I know from having owned barbershops, people say whatever is on their minds there. The media is fueling this, in my opinion. I do believe when we hear this sort of talk we need to try to turn things in a reasonable direction, or our country will be headed in a dangerous state.
So yes, there is bad, but there is good, so be "balanced" as the jws used to say, (but they never really practiced)

Satellite/Cable tv is a big part, too. Before all we got was just local bad stuff but now with CNN blah blah the latest killing 3,000 miles away may as well happened next door because you'll hear about it just as much. I was in a discussion about the bad things going on and the person brought up all the bad stuff he sees on Nancy Grace and I told him that proved my point. If this was 1980 no one would ever see her because there was no CNN Headline News.

I believe criminals and extremists are a reflection of mainstream thoughts and beliefs that civil people are disciplined enough to keep quiet about.
Upon what evidence do you base this belief? Is it really strong enough evidence to not only adhere to the belief but base a worldview around?
I'm just guessing but based on what little I know of psychology and sociology it seems more likely that the stated belief is incorrect and merely a by-product of your Borg indoctrination.
