Can I ask a question first? Why did Satan "tempt" Jesus? He is called THE tempter at Mat 4:3.
Satan is absolutely opposed to God. He is a god of this world and does not want anyone following God. His entire goal is to turn us away from God. Satan is described at John 8:44. " You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
God lets the devil tempt us so that we have an opportunity to show him our faith. If there was no adversity then there would be no way to show that we were on God's side.
