Baltar, a typical JW argument when against the wall on b-days and holidays is that they don't want to stumble others. Shows the duplicity of the WT here.
Can we trust this website? (About the subject in which Jehovah's Witnesses were a NGO)

I think surely only the most prejudiced ex-Jws can get stumbled by being a member of the UN library department for 10 years.
All the Articles brought up emphasise physically supporting the UN in it's goals especially in it's "cry for peace and security". translating gaining access to it's information department for ten years (dealing with it as an authority) into supporting it policies is a ridiculous leap (obviously so) and that is when you get the conspiracy theorists going through awakes and wts editing them to try make it more when it patently isn't.

My reply: Oh you think do you? Well, that means a whole lot now doesn't it.

My reply: So says Reniaa. But reality says it actually shows gross hypocrisy on the part of the WT.

it's no conspiracy theory Debator and I cant understand why you keep referring to it as such, and show any edited WT/Awake articles that you speak of? I suppose "the good news to be completed in this 20th Century" was an edited article done by Satan and his army of opposers?

My reply:
Taking all of Reniaa's adjectives regarding things not agreeing with the org and all her Wt talk out of it we are left with:

Again, Reniaa, you say a whole lot of nothing.

The excuse is irrelevent. They cavorted with The Beast. End of story.
If I had joined the Y just to use the gym, I would have been sanctioned.
If I had taken blood just to live, I would have been sanctioned.

LDUH:
The WTS has denigrated the UN as thoroughly evil and of Satan, for many decades. In addition, as a governmental agency of man, Witnesses are to be No Part Of It.
However, rather than following this policy, the WTS JOINED the UN as a Non-Givernmental Organization (NGO) to promote the UN and its goals.
The kept it secret.
Then The Guardian ran an expose showing the WTS had been a part of the UN for a decade.
Grasping at straws, the WTS claimed they only became an NGO so they could access their library. However, we can see in various articles during this time the WTS rhetoric against the UN became glowing reports of UN successes - and, to be an NGO, one of the things the WTS had to do was promote their work.
It is one of the most hypocritical things the WTS has done - damn the UN and then be a part of it.

In order to participate as N(on) G(overnment) O(rganisation) within the United Nations you must sign up to a charter agreeing to promote U.N operated agencies, Lduh.

Many of the posters here argue that such affiliation is a breech of WT's own teaching (read the thread through).
When I was in my teens, a very intelligent/educated friend/brother in my congregation took part in a chess match at the local YMCA. He was severely reprimanded by the Elders of our Congregation.
With an Awake! article blatantly praising the activities of certain U.N agencies, it would tend to suggest that WT officials knew of this affiliation and back peddled PDQ when it was brought to the attention of the public.

Well hell, it was in the newspaper, letters came from the UN confirming it, so this guy is really swimming in the River Denial.

I had not long joined this board when the U.N. scandal broke and I remember jaw dropping moments when I went to the U N Website and saw the WTS as an NGO listed among all the others.
Members of the board did a great job in uncovering the details...I think this is one of the best links for more info, to Randy's site
http://www.randytv.com/secret/fordecades.htm
I recall seeing references to evidence that they actually submitted the Awake articles to the U N in support of their NGO status, but alas I do not have that reference now.
