I stopped whilst still an active witness, just cancelled my Direct debit and told myself I would put money in the box to cover things like literatrash and heat and light sometimes, and sometimes I did , but that dropped off.

The thing is, I cannot really pin down what my motive was at the time, I still thought then that it was God's org.

But I just stopped giving them money. Why ? I dunno.

When and why did you stop giving them money ?

I couldn't give much because I was a young poor pioneer at first. I was asked by the PO if I would consider making a regular donation so as to get the additional gift aid. I declined as I wasn't even earning enough to pay tax.

So I never really gave much and certainly stopping giving anything for the last 10 years I was in even for any of my literature. Only if someone donated on the doors would I put it in the contribution box.

For a few years I gave in the box, then I did a direct debit for a few, then I did a big donation at once when we had a pitiful building fund, (which I could really do with right now). I stopped giving about 2 years before leaving. Reason for stopping?... for one, I actually took notice of what was coming in during the accounts report, instead of counting the rabbits in my head. It turned out the bulk of our money came from a bequeathment after a sister died, so not many people were donating anything. 2, I wised up that most people were probably using our literature to light the stove/cigars, get up dogshyte in their garden or line their trash cans.

If I write a real nice letter to Brooklyn, d'ya think they'll reimburse me?

The last time was about 16 years ago, but it was a small lump so I reconcilled myself that way. After that i realised it was a very profitable organisation so I never gave another penny ever again expect the odd donation received in the ministry. After that I didnt put money in for ANY publications, never at conventions or any other way. I was a publisher until 2 years ago as well.

    Cheers

A neighbouring congregation were struggling for cash but wanted a new KH as theirs was rather tatty. So they asked people in the congregations nearby to help out, either with a loan or donation. We gave a lump sum donation. Months and months passed but they never got a new KH. Eventually they moved into our KH. What did they do with all the cash they had collected? Sent it to the WTS!!!

    I have not contributed since.

When I sent in money specifically marked for Food Aid and they sent back a letter saying it was put in the General Fund.

Contributions began to fizzle when I heard about the WTBTS being listed in NYC's Top 40 corporations. This was early 2000s. I guess the picture's a little different now. But with all the downsizing and sales of branch buildings, I figure they'll still be doing OK.

I stopped donating to the Kingdumb Hell fund when I realized I was getting negative value for my contribution--and that was soon into 1992, after making almost $200 payments toward the new Kingdumb Hell. I totally quit donating anything, except what I received from donations in field circus, by the end of 1993. Since then, they haven't seen even a penny out of me--and they aren't getting even a penny of my Christmas light fund for their Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund.

I was a tight ass as regards this,no DD no Deed of Covenant, I wouldn't mind betting that in all the years I was a Dub I probably donated no more then about £20, purely because of the amount that used to pile into those boxes.
