    Isaac-

6000 + 1000 years was Fred Franz's opus. He was mindful enough to not say a certain day and hour but the 'seasons' yes. His calculations dealt with the Fall of the year for Adam's creation and the new year using the Jewish calendar for support. The Millennium like the new year would suit him fine. He had a certain turn of phrase about it, something like wouldn't it be smart of God to make things happen according to Fred's timetable calculations

Designs, so Freddie did the calculation but did not give the dates? But didn't the WT already establish 6000 years as coming up Oct of 75, leaving even the smallest mind to put 2 and 2 together?

My in-laws have been devout JWs since around 1961. Even they don't tell lies about what really happened in 1975.

In fact, when we visited them recently I couldn't believe my ears when MIL said "they (meaning the Org) have ruined thousand of lives" I nearly fell off my chair. However, at least they are honest JWs which is a rarety.

I think MIL feels guilty for not allowing their two boys to go to grammar school and then on to university. However, she was only following instructions!!

    debator,

    : 1 Corinthians 7:29

    What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none;

Care to explain what the author of that verse had in mind when he wrote it? First, if everyone had faithfully followed that verse, the entire human population would have died out about 1900 years ago. Secondly, that verse contradicts the Bible itself when it commanded spouses to give each other the "marital due." Thirdly, it's all bullshit, because 2,000 of "time being short" is meaningless.

    Fourthly, you are incredibly stupid.

Isaac- Yes, he avoided setting a specific date but 1975 was his big brainstorm. As a former Bible Student he relied on Russell's Chart of the Ages, then made a shift of 100 years taking 6000 years from Adam's creation- 1874/75 to 1975.

Brilliant, worthy of a Rhodes Scholar.

dumbassator keeps harping on the premise of, "the publications don't say 1975..." as if this is enough to absolve them of any responsibility to the hype of 1975.

If the WTS didn't hype it and didn't point to that date then why did they feel the need to print this in publications after the fallout of "The Great Nothingness of 75":

    Watchtower - 3-15-80:

In its issue of July 15, 1976, The Watchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sightgs on a certian date, stated: "If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or decieved him and brought disappoitnment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises." In saying "anyone," The Watchtower included all disappointed one of Jehovah's Witnesses, hence including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date. (italics theirs)

    1980 Yearbook:

A fine point made in the talk "Choosing the Best Way of Life" was that Jehovah God will save us from stumbling-even as he did David in the case of Nabai's insolence-but we must do our part. The brothers also appreciated the candor of this same talk, which acknowledged the Society's responsibility for some of the disappointment a number felt regarding 1975.

If the WTS felt it necessary to offer an apology, half-assed though it may be, then it's pretty fucking obvious that they were significantly responsible for the fuck-up. If they can admit it, how come you can't?

Awake, 10/8/1968, p. 14, The seventh one-thousand year period could be likened to the seventh day, the sabbath of that week. 2 Pet. 3:8. How fitting it would be for God, following that pattern, to end man's misery after six thousand years of human rule and follow it with His glorious Kingdom rule for a thousand years!... This would leave only seven more years from the autumn of 1968 to complete 6,000 years of human history. That seven-year period will evidently finish in the autumn of the year 1975."

Kingdom Ministry, 3/68, p. 4, "Just think, brothers, there are only about 90 months left before 6,000 years of man's existence on earth is completed. Do you remember what we learned at the assemblies last summer? The majority of people living today will probably be alive when Armageddon breaks out, and there are no resurrection hopes for those who are destroyed then. So, now more than ever, it is vital not to ignore that spirit of wanting to do more."

Kingdom Ministry, 6/69, p. 3: "In view of the short time left, a decision to pursue a career in this system of things is not only unwise but extremely dangerous... Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service, this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end."

Paradise Restored to Mankind by Theocracy! pp. 364-365: "Jehovah, the God of the true prophets, will put all false prophets to shame either by not fulfilling the false predictions of such self-assuming prophets or by having His own prophecies fulfilled in a way opposite to that predicted by the false prophets. False prophets will try to hide their reason for feeling shame by denying who they really are. "

    HI Ding

    thank you

for posting watchtowers that confirm that though they were enthusiatic about '75 they did not teach that Armageddon would specifically happen then,

    debator:

What part of "probably be alive when ARMAGEDDON breaks out" did you not understand as applying to those still alive within the 90 months left before the 6,000 years of man's existence on earth is completed? Your reading comprehension skills seem to be somewhat lacking, to put things politely.
