    Hi All-

I don't normally post here (spend much of my ex-JW time over at JWR) but a few of us from will be having a mini apostafest this weekend at the Stern Grove Festival. Mark (who originally started this thread) will be attending, as well as a bit of the Sacto faction.... If anyone else would like to join us (last minute- I know!!!), drop me a PM and I'll give you the details. The musician that day will be Neko Case- it's a free concert in a beautiful park and always a good time if you've never been.

    Cheers-

    Tallulah

(And yeah, I f-ed up when I first signed up here and misspelled my own damn name.... I can spell, I swere!)

    Tallulah,

Thanks for the invite! I would come if it were not for my previous engagement... Tahoe Apostafest! I wish you all were heading up there instead. Maybe next year, huh? Check out this thread about it.

Please let us know when there is another "get together". I'm in Mendo County and would like to come.

I admit, I was kind of torn when I saw the post about Tahoe, but wasn't sure at the time what my work situation was going to be and I'm still pretty new to the whole "associating" with ex-JW's experience... baby steps!

I'll keep you posted and I think we're going to do a coffee (or coffee spiked with whatever floats your boat) meetup in SF or Oakland in a couple of weeks from now.

    Have fun in Tahoe!!!!

i think calling it, "cali," is a young/trendy thing, but i like it. prefer saying, i'm heading to "cali," rather than admitting i'm heading to central california and not san diego. wish i still had condo on the bay there. one place the real estate market holds its value --- cali beach front property as i'm waiting for it to drop.

    Tallulah,

I totally understand the "new to the whole associating with ex-JW's" thing. Although it's been over 2 years since I stopped attending mtgs, and I know logically that there is nothing wrong with it, I still feel a bit awkward and naughty to be heading to an apostate gathering. In fact, I was just talking to another "next year attender" about their same feelings. Baby steps is right. As for me, I'm trying to think of this weekend as "encouraging", therapeutic, and cathartic, which it should be. I would love to meetup with you all down in SF or Oakland, but for more than coffee, as it's a 3 hr drive for me from up here in hillbilly land.

Reallife- I'll try to plan something fun for later- my weekends will be booked for the months of August and September, so it might not be until the first week of October.... or... we should plan something really fun for Halloween! (I kinda already know what I want to wear for a costume this year....) If I can swing something else for July, I'd love to- maybe a museum visit, or bowling, or a short hike in Marin, or all of the above? I don't know what kind of stuff interests everybody else, so I'm open for ideas.

Flipper- I hope you guys have a super awesome wonderful time! Put me on the list for next year's Fourth of July weekend, I just need to make sure I can bring the dogs with me. My older dog (the Pointer) loves swimming in the lake (even in winter! Crazy beast!!!)

And please do keep me posted on other stuff.

Everybody- have a great Fourth of July and raise a glass (or can, or bong or a cuppa chamomile!) to the flag! Light a sparkler!

I'm much farther north in California - about 3 1/2 hour drive north of Sacramento. I'm from San Diego, grew up there. I agree with Farkel, real San Diegans don't call it "Diego." And real Californians (60 years here, so I can say) don't call it Cali.

I've only run across one other San Diego X-JW here that I recognized from the JW past. It was very fun to meet him and his wife and to know he got out of that stupid religion. Sadly his sister never did.

Born in San Diego. But grew up in Santa Barbara (and, man has it changed). Moved to Northern California foothills in 1980 when I was offered a job at a daily newspaper (had kids and a wife -- and it was much cheaper here). Now with my kids grown and I'm divorced, I live in Sacramento where I worked as a capital correspondent for a major newspaper. Hey, live downtown and it reportedly has the most trees of any city in America.
