    DIM & Ashi,
I recall that DIM recently shared with me a comment he heard in a talk at the last Circuit Assembly. Something to the effect of, "Brothers, ..Satan LIVES on the Internet..."
So I think we are already seeing the scare tactics being officially implemented.

    Erich,

I didn't say an official ban, just the kind of back-door ban that they put on a lot of things, a 'conscience' matter, which of course means the conscience of the craziest person in the hall.

You're right, not an official ban, ever. People would start comparing them to the chinese government.

But all they need to do is send a letter to the elders which states that all people who are on the internet should be watched, or that a local needs talk should be given on trying to avoid the internet all together except for necessary things, etc.

At least, that's what I think IMHO.

Their main problem is they have to use the internet more and more too..
As necessary tool for designers work etc on the one hand...

... and to save money because mailing letters get more and more expensive..
so they come into a mill...

I think they may attack this on a couple of levels. They did the same type of thing in the seventies with oral sex. They may attempt a ban, but when it fails back off from it. But that will be accompanied by lots and lots of comments on the line of "Strong Christians don't use the internet."

Looking at porn or apostate sites will become DF'ing offenses, or at minimum something you will get marked for. And of course there will always be some spies around to let the elders know who is doing what on the internet.

I havent been a regular for well over a year now but before I stopped attenging they were already discussing this issue at some of the meetings and warning the cong. to only visit sites that the society would find acceptable. and any site that spoke againgst the WT would not be found acceptable. I assumed that this was world wide. So they probably will find away to start watching people and do it.

They might come out with a program on their next CD that you can add to your "parental security" that blocks out all jw related sites automatically under the sections of spiritism/occult/radical fundamentalism

Don't know, they in practice teach their people that the internet is evil so they shouldn't use it but I don't know if they will in writting Ban it. Maybe they will, look at all the other wild things they've had the guts to put in writting. I think even if they did, it would only make people more curious in what is on it!

Maybe Borg HQ will use Carnivore to track all Internet use by the faithful. Those DF'd because of improper use of it will be notified by e-mail or by a big pop-up from the Society saying "THAT'S IT --- YER OUT, BRO!!!"

The Internet situation for the WTBTS is bad and getting worse.

    1. The WTBTS primary growth in the more developed countries is the children of current members. Too bad for the WTBTS that even if the parents ban Internet use at home, there is plenty of Internet access available outside the home at the local library and school.

    2. The more the WTBTS rages against the Internet, the more likely that the not-so-brain-dead segment of current JWs will realize that the Brooklyn Boys are full of feces. These JWs would soon be exJWs.

    3. Soon, people in the more developed countries will see a complete fusion of telephone, television, and Internet services. The typical home will have a single fiber optic connection and at least one new style television which will subsume all information access. So, a ban on the Internet would be like banning the telephone and the TV as well. Rather unlikely.

    4. If the general public got the impression that "JWs aren't allowed to use the Internet", it would be yet another hard-to-fight detraction like "no holidays', "no blood transfusions", and the like.

I had forgotten all about that badwillie...i have my notebook of "weird things they say at JW meetings" and word for word here is what the CO or DO said (i forget which)

"Satan lives in chatrooms. The internet is full of evil potential. Don't trust your so called brothers...you don't know who you are talking to"

i'm sick and tired of hearing things from uptight-short-sighted-narrow minded hypocritics. all i want is the truth just gimme some truth - John Lennon
