Why do people defend monsters?

    Godwins law?

That is not a good debating tool! Your opinion of Jehovah is your opinion, it does not reflect other people's.

Thank you VAMPIRE. I have noticed form your posts that you have not arrived at a conclusion yet and wish you well in your search. Congratulations on your 1000th post.

I'm going to bring this down to a more human level.

Why do women defend their husbands who beat them and their children or sexually abuse their children?

Some say it is complicated but then maybe it isn't.

If a woman is married to a man who abuses her or her children she have various ways to deal with this. She might be too scared to do anything about it. She could ignore it. Or she could confront it and do something.

Many women choose to do nothing. We have to ask ourselves why?

On some level she may ask herself a few questions.

    • What does it say about me as a person, a wife, a mother that I am amrried to this person?
    • What will people think about me if I say I didn't know how bad things were?
    • Does acknowledging the abuse mean I am part of it?
    • What will happen to me and my family if I admit the abuse?
    • Where will I go?
    • What will I do?

Sadly it is easier to do nothing.

An abusive husband who has all the power in the family, who has threatened death if anyone talks or leaves is no different than a god who states he will kill you if you don't do what you are told. If I acknowledge that part of the god I worship what does that say about me? I could say thise things happened thousands of years ago and the god I worship doesn't kill people anymore. He is a god of love now. And I don't want to think about what Revelation says about Armageddon. I will just do what I am told so my family is safe. I will shut my mouth and ignore the terrible things that have happened or might happen. I will pretend everything is okay. I will see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil la. . . la. . . lalalalala

I don't think it is a huge leap from viewing abusive parents or spouses as benign and ignoring the bad while preserving the good to seeing that in a god.

You know this kind of thinking is really turning me away from any belief in god.

Strong belief becomes it's own dangerous mind-control.

God is good. God is good. God destroyed people and hates others, but God is good. They deserved it, or God only did not prevent it, but Man or Satan did it. God is good. God is good. Only people who deserve to be hated are hated. God is good.

I have no problem entertaining the thought that the Bible actually could be the Word of God, but let a Christian entertain the thought that it is not. If he succeeds, he is not without hope. But many react similarly to the JW and dismiss the idea.

As I've said before, people simply need to find a God they don't have to make apologies for all the time. Neither Bible-God nor Allah is one of them.

Yes. Just as some Jews felt it was time for a 're-write' when Roman ideaology reached them.. it may be time for modern religion to get a re-write as well. If you HAVE to believe in a god - drop the 8-bit (OT) and 16-bit (NT) gods, and go 32-bit.

I like Lady Lee's analogy as well... the behavior of apologists can be eerily close to the behavior of other victim scenarios - a sort of stockholm syndrome. "God has done terrible things." "Yeah.. but... don't look at that. He's good!"

    Lady Lee,

"I don't think it is a huge leap from viewing abusive parents or spouses as benign and ignoring the bad while preserving the good to seeing that in a god."

Your analogy is, imo, flawed. True, there are abusive spouses whose power over their mates is so strong, or the fear so great, that the abused mate will not leave or prefers to look at whatever good they can find in order to justify staying. But for many moderate Christians the main draw is love not fear. Love for the Christ moves moderate Christians to keep going. Love has thrown fear out of the way because they trust the Christ and their Father.

AK I agree with you 100%.I would add that JW like to say all other people are 100% bad and deserved to die.I see all other people totally good and should live a life w/o interference from this ape shit god of who knows where.

    I love the "monster" because:

    1. He gave me life

    2. He blessed my life

    3. He died for me

    4. He has promised me eternal life

    5. I love everything about his personality

    6. He is holy, kind, loving, pure, wise, and greater than all human thinking (even greater than the thinking that happens on the JWN board)

    7. He has taught me how to live, and by living in this way I have found true happieness even in the most horrible times of my life

    8. He created a universe for me to enjoy endlessely

    9. He gave me a mind that I can enjoy endlessly

    10. He is my best friend

And do you think that Satanic thinking would have any OTHER goal?
