Wow, interesting find caliber. Insane teeter-tottering ideals going on in the WT. Must be some differences in opinion among the writers.

You have to understand, Mexico and South America are HUGE growth areas for the witnesses, so they allow a shitload more leeway to attract more adherents.

Not the least bit surprisingly, the JW's are doing the very thing they condemned catholics for, adopting local customs and allowing local ancient religious customs in order to attract adherents.

On a more serious not, seriously, since the Bible never says Jesus went poop, we should never poop. God clearly hates it.

Jesus and His apostles didn't celebrate wedding anniversaries either. After he died, the apostles didn't have annual meetings at Beth-El. The apostles didn't have a Tuesday night book study, a Thursday night Theocratic Ministry School followed by a Service Meeting. They didn't have a public talk delivered on Sundays, followed by a WT Study. They didn't have Circuit Assemblies, District Conventions, there was no such thing as a Regular Pioneer, Auxilliary Pioneer, Special Pioneer, Circuit Overseer, District Overseer, Branch Committee, territories, publishers, turning in of field service time to the older men within the community, the enforcement of shaving causing severe razor bumps for many, wearing full suits as opposed to a blazer or sports coat with decent slacks..................we can go on and on and on........how far do you want to go with this?

    Makes you wonder doesn't it?

How DID the first century Christians keep things going without the Watchtower to control every aspect of their lives and keep them in line???

Exactly. The reality is we don't have a complete picture of the sort of lives that first century Christians led. The scriptures even indicate that much of the historical record of Jesus' life is missing. (John 21:25) With that being the case its inappropriate for the WT to make stories up about the lives of those Christians. Its even more inappropriate and downright unethical and wicked to put a figurative knife to our backs in order to ensure we nod our head in agreement to their made up stories. Then they have the audacity to quote 1 Cor 4:6 about "not going beyond what is written." They go beyond what is written every time they pressure you to pioneer, auxilliary pioneer, special pioneer, not to miss the Friday session of the District Convention, blah blah blah. We can go on and on all day about all the things the WT expects of the Flock that isn't remotely scriptural. But don't you invite a few friends over to celebrate the day of your son's birth!! Ohhh nooooo!!! There's less repurcussions over getting wasted off alcohol or viewing pornography in this organization than celebrating the birth of your child. Gotta love it!

after listening to the standard JW canned explanation as to why JWs don't celebrate birthdays I always ask them- "so, if John the Baptist had been beheaded at a wedding anninversary celebration, then JWs wouldn't celebrate anniversaries either?"

Uh, uhh, they stammer- That always exposes their faulty no-birthdays logic.

    Job's Sons Celebrated Birthdays

Job was a blameless and upright man (see Job 1:1) and, therefore, raised his children properly. and the evidence indicates that his sons - and most probably Job, as well - celebrated birthdays.

And his sons went and rested in their houses, everyone his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and drink with them. (Job 1:4, KJV)

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible indicates that the word interpreted as "day" (yowm) in this scripture can be used figuratively as a space of time and can be rendered, with other Hebrew words (such as "his") to mean birthday. The Revised Standard Version is a better translation of this verse:

His sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each on his day; and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

But, The Living Bible probably gets to the meaning, of what is meant, best of all:

Every year when each of Job's sons had a birthday, he invited his brothers and sisters to his house for a celebration. On these occasions they would eat and drink with great merriment.

I have never agreed with the Watchtower stand on this passage from Job, eventhough they admit they dont know 100% they say it indicates them celebrating each their harvest day. Yeah right!!

This scripture indicates that birthdays was celebrated.

If you want to go on the root of paganism, well let me name a few things that are pagan that JW's seem to accept:

The days of the week are named by pagan gods,

    Rings are pagan,

A wedding veil was worn by pagans to warn of wicked spirtis in a marriage,

Wearing a white wedding dress has pagan roots,

I have alist that goes on and on.

Anniversary has the same concept as birthdays it is an annual celebration, it is the same thing!!

Moishe, don't you think the stammering indicates that they are afraid to express an opinion until the WTS tells them what they are supposed to think?

In the words of a Star Trek: Original Series android, "I am not programmed to respond in that area."

how the holy fuck could anyone know whether or not Jesus celebrated birthdays or wedding anniversaries? There is scant evidence that he even existed, let alone what type of birthday cake he preferred.
