I guess when you think about it, the JC really is just another test of demonstrating your humility. By attending you may call it standing up for yourself, or defending yourself. However, you're really just playing a game thats been rigged for you to lose. The elders on the JC often enough aren't even aware that the game is rigged. They just follow the rules as layed out in the Flock book. Ask yourself, how many appeals have you heard of that went successful?
How to prepare for a JC defense

Depends on how you define success.
I think mine was pretty successful. We had multiple goals in proceeding with a JC hearing and all were reached. Being DF'd was expected.
One goal was to delay any kind of DFing until after a specific date, for personal reasons. I also had witnesses who knew our circumstances and were ready to testify (and one who did) that I refused to disclose my personal beliefs. Those witnesses are now fully aware that we were DF'd based on THOUGHTCRIME alone and that might very well make an impression on them. Who knows?
You guys are correct in that it is highly improbable that any of those elders will see the light. But please don't be too quick to assume there's no other logical reason or strategy for allowing yourself to be DF'd. Attending a JC isn't pleasant and isn't for everyone but - in some cases - might draw other JWs' attention to the demand for cult-like conformity.

It was`t the closure Brotherdan was looking for..
Getting undressed by horny injuns on the high plains that haven't seen a squaw in weeks?
Maybe it is the "closure" he was looking for!

One option is not to go at all.
Another option is to go and say exactly what Jesus said to Herod in Luke 23:9 -- nothing.
Another option is to tell them you won't come until they are as open in their trials as the worldly courts are in theirs.
Another option is to show up with a lawyer.
Another option is to go make a full defense.
Another option is to stop halfway through the hearing and tell them that you, like Paul, have decided to appeal to Caesar.
Just a few possibilities...

For the record, misery, I waited an hour before I drank your White Russian at the reception.

In many ways the WTS. acts very much like a business enterprise, where one employee isn't doing their supposed job or they are misbehaving,
against the company outlines in appropriate behavior, they get brought before the designating enforcers to be counseled.
The Bosses (GB and the foremen elders ) look at the employee's behavior, not only during working hours but in their off hours as well.
WOW ! when you think about, where can a guy get that kind of undulating power ?
I know from the most powerful divine one from up high in the heavens.
Another reality is the GB of the WTS. owns each and everyone of their enslaved followers, from the newborn to the very elderly.
Remember a Sheppard's wealth is measured by the size of his flock, its no wonder the WTS keeps a close account of their flock
and how well they are both performing and producing.

If you no longer accept their authority or subject yourself to their rules, then what point does it do to defend yourself against them?
But most people that go to their JC DO still see them as having authority.
That is why I am such a STRONG advocate of recording the JC.
Here is my (uneducated, since i have not been to a JC) advice:
1. Record the JC
2. Do not listen to it
3. Find your way to Jesus, God, or whatever you are led to believe
4. Listen to the JC 1 year later
You have to realize that the JC has NOTHING to do with you. They are showing their power and authority and they like that feeling. Misery will not deny that. While they "want" the offending person to come back to Jehovah's organization, they also enjoy the excitement of a judicial hearing.
But for me, at least, I would love to tell them, the people that have hated me for what conclusions I've come to, that I did not make a rash decision. I did not let Satan sway me. I did not let myself be controlled by evil apostates.
I made an examination of the Bible, and guess what? I found out...I WAS WRONG! I was wrong for my entire life. And sadly, I found this out when I was 30 years old. These men are in their 40's, 50's, 60's and older. Why have they not done their investigation yet. They may SAY they did, but if they are intelligent and did a thorough investigation, they would see that it is an indisputable conclusion that the Watchtower society is wrong.
But my saying this is not for them. I don't want them to follow me like they think every other apostate wants. I would tell them that they were wrong for following me. I am spiritually retarded, thanks to this organization. I would only ask them to investigate for themselves. THEN, if they are honest with themselves, they may see that this is not the organization that they are defending and ruining familes over.

I had a horrible JC experience but I'm absolutely glad that I went and stood up for the Truth. I learned first hand a little bit more about what it means not to prepare a defense and allow the Holy Spirit to speak for you. If you are called to bear witness to the Truth I wouldn't avoid it. Would gladly do it all over again.
