I've been out for more than 10 yrs now, and I still haven't ever put up a tree. I live by myself, so I don't see the point.

I'll mark it on my calendar; I think you've got my email addy but I'll pm it to you, just in case...

(Oh, and I'm TERRIBLE about checking my emails!!! If you send me one, expect a reply within a month... Talk about "snail" mail... )

BUT! I'll put your name on my calendar, and hopefully I can get my husband to slow down long enough for me to jump out of the car....

I'm not doing one this year, but I plan to do a small table-top tree next year. My birthday falls right after Christmas, and it's a milestone one this year, so I'm saving up my energy (and money) for that. I hope people post pictures of their trees, though! :) There's something especially beautiful about trees put together by people who didn't grow up with Christmas...they seem like more love is put into them. :)

I try to do that on Thanksgiving weekend, and take them down for New Year's. That's "weather permitting" for the outside part, of course.

A real cut tree should be put up no more than about 6 weeks at a time--and I highly recommend using LED lights because of the reduced fire risk. The problem with those is, if you leave them up too long, you are going to have a whopper of a mess to clean up later. A dry tree is also a fire hazard, and all it takes is a tiny spark, an incandescent bulb getting too hot, or someone to carelessly smoke near it to create a 40 second inferno that is sure to destroy the whole room. Keeping it well watered will reduce this risk, but not necessarily the mess.

If you get a fake tree, you can leave it up all summer like I did. Again, I recommend LED lights if only to save electricity and prevent melting any of the plastic needles. No maintenance with a fake tree, aside the occasional bulb replacement. I do not recommend pre-lit incandescent trees because it's a hassle to replace the whole string after 3 or 4 years when too many bulbs go dead. Unlit (do it yourself) or LED prelit trees are better (I prefer an unlit tree that you install the lights yourself, since changing them when a string goes bad is much easier).

Maybe I'll put it up the week of Thanksgiving...

Argh, that's too far off. Who says it can't be before Thxgvg?

Blondie, I cannot WAIT for you to organize the Christmas card exchange again this year.

    What's the scoop on this?
