I live alone but I'm putting up that tree if it takes days to decorate it. And I'm not even here for Christmas but I don't care. I love sitting with all the lights off and just staring at the tree

I will go up the first week in December and stays up until after Russian Christmas in January. I live in a building for Russian Seniors and they celebrate later than the rest of us

Unlike many here I had christmas as a child. I have many fond memories and plan to have one this year. It will be my first tree I have gotten on my own.

It will most likely be a tabletop about 4 ft tall. I have been checking them out to see where the lowest prices are and possibly Garden Ridge has the best prices.

As a child we always put the tree up on Christmas Eve and didn't take it down until around Jan 6 when the wise men supposedly visited Jesus..

I too used to love turning the lights off in the house and just looking at the lit up tree..it was so pretty!

I remember one time my parents were out and my boyfriend came over (My future hubby ) Well he had been halfway raised a JW by his mom so he didn't have christmas except his first few years. I say halfway because his mom really neglected him and took his sister with her to the meetings and the assemblies. Don't know why. I knew none of this then. I had no idea what the heck a JW was..lol

I remember asking him several times "Isn't the tree beautiful?". And he never would answer me... I later found out why...

So this year I am having my first since I have been on my own.

One thing I am determined to find it the old fashioned bubble lights..not the tiny ones they sell now, the ones that are about 2 inches high.

My mom used to put a cotton blanket around the tree that looked like snow. Then she would lay a oval mirror down and put a girl and boy figure on it that were ice skating..I still have all their most precious decorations boxed up from 1988..They will finally be used again!

    Snoozy..walking down memory lane..

I have seen a newer version of the old fashioned lights. You might have to wade through lots of shelves of the tiny bulbs but the larger ones seem to be making a come-back

For you animal lovers do NOT use tinsel. Cats especially love eating the stuff and it can kill them or require surgery to get it out. Not sure if birds would eat it. I have all kinds of crystal, silver and even acrylic icicles that I use instead even though I no longer have pets.

I have a thread that I made a while back on decorating your tree - sort of a how-to that will make decorating a lot easier. Believe me there is a way to do this that won't make you crazy. I'll see if I can find it and send it bttt

My dog loves attacking trees outside and ripping the branches down...I've gotta keep an eye on her whenever I put up a tree in the house. Lady Lee, you should post a link to your thread about Christmas Decorating

I am putting my tree up Thanksgiving evening. I'm so excited about Christmas, I love the decorations, lights, and music. My kids are very excited about it, too.

Day after Thanksgiving...I put my Halloween Decorations up too early, and I got really sick of them ;)...I use a fake tree bc I did not have the benefit of my mother teaching me how to care for it...plus my dog will drink the sugar water ;)
