I haven't "formally" prayed in a looong time.

I pray every day, but with the "what the heck, I will give it a try" attitude- I am in hopes that it reinforces giving me a positive attitude toward those who shun me and are enslaved to the Borg

cantleave & nugget- I'm surprised to hear that I am not the only one who went years without praying to Jeh while in the Borg. (I did that off and on in my 20's) And yes, I spent many nights falling asleep while in the middle of a prayer & feeling terrible and guilty about it.

In my last three years before I left, I was praying to Jeh to die- I didn't want to be around one more day & I was so dissappointed to wake up everyday with my prayer unanswered and trapped in this hellhole- it is liberating not to think those things anymore...but I do not think it was God, it was by my own choice to change my life...

    Prayer is overrated, you think??

Ding, thanks for the scriptures. I admire the understanding and good sense you that you have on here.

I guess what I am trying to show is the awkwardness I feel now after being constricted & shut down by WT for 45+yrs! Like starting all over again and it feels well... awkward. How awful, I open my heart to God in prayer and fumble over who he is!

A couple of years ago I really wanted to stop drinking (I obviously felt I was overdoing it ... a lot). My aunt who was a recovered alcoholic of 20 years and still attended AA meetings, told me to get down on my knees and pray to Jesus. I wanted to try it, but just could not. So I guess it has been about 20 years.

(Funny thing is I stopped drinking without Jesus or AA)

    Well, prayer could be psychological.

My JW MIL was visiting and had a meal with us. My heathen wife and children were about to dive into the food when I loudly said:

"ALRIGHT, why don't we have a prayer."

and extended my hands to those next to me.

I truly do appreciate everything I prayed about.... well, except for the Jehovah & Jesus part.

    MINIMUS,

I do in the mornings when I think of it (a gratitude prayer). Besides, when I was active in the religion I never felt it was necessary to be praying all the time like other JWs and felt it was rather stupid. I had friends who felt they should pray every time they popped a snack into their mouth!

I remember an assembly talk given by a CO; he asked if we have ever sinned against Jehovah by falling asleep at night while praying to him?

Hell, LIKE EVERYNIGHT! I felt so guilty after that talk that I did not pray at night anymore unless I got down on my knees (but was usually too tired for that nonsense)

Last time, 4 years ago. Time before that, 7 years ago (properly).

4 years ago I was asked to say a blessing before a meal at my mum's house. (she didn't know I'd left). It was a surreal experience. There was lots of silence as I forgot what to say. The brain heals itself and consigns all the bad shit and trauma to the 'out tray', which is obviously where all the WT drivel had been sent.

I spent the next hour or so thinking to myself 'WTF did I just do?'

Dear Jebus, rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub.
