Moshe, I'm amazed that she wasn't suspicious of your questioning. It's hilarious that you were able to pull this off.

It's really annoying to hear JW's brush off the 1975/Armaggeddon hype. My mother was studying with a pioneer around this time, she really drummed into my mother's head that 1975 was the end and that she only had a short period of time to save herself and get baptized.

The events surrounding 1975 was common knowledge to non-JW relatives, bible students, neighbors and media outlets.

"who were serving with just a date in mind."

I loathe this statement that JW's use to excuse themselves from the responsiblities of their teachings.

I never met anyone that was serving with a date in mind.

I did meet people who couldn't understand how the teachings could have been sooo wrong if this was God's organization.

I totally accepted 1975 but it did not send me out of the "truth". My family happily made sacrifices for the nearness of the end.

In 1988 I had a discussion with my father about the possibility of "the generation" passing away and if it did that would be the end of believing the JW were God's chosen. He was reluctant to agree at the time.

(I still have one unresolved possibility before i could totally dismiss the JW religion totally, we all search for truth)

What I read in the post originating this thread the ORG didn't teach the end will come in 1975 . That would tell me it is a lie that the Watchtower predicted the end in 1975 . It was then like a spontaneous event in minds of some Jehovah's Witnesses who thought in the year 1975 the end would come.

How come those Jehovah's Witnesses came with such an idea unless they read and studied the Watchtower publications ?

I had no idea how hard they PUSHED the 1975 date until only about a year ago. I started reading COC and thats when I really found out about the whole 1975 fiasco. I HAD NO IDEA. Our elder mentioned it once and said that IT WAS THE PEOPLE, basically the rank and file, who blew it out of proportion, that the society didnt say anything (he might not have said those words, but thats what he meant). Come to find out, I listen to a talk given by Fredrick Franz from 1975, AND IT BLEW ME AWAY!!!! I couldnt believe what I was hearing. He was basically saying that 1975 was an important year and that it was the end of man's 6000 years of existance. He didnt say that the world was ending but he pretty much hinted at the world ending WITHOUT COMING OUT AND SAYING AKA LOADED LANGUAGE. But thenin a kingdom ministry it said that the world was only going to be around for a few years. Not only is there documented proof that the WTBTS said that world wasnt going to be around after 1975, but theres also taped proof of it. The Watchtower worse enemy is the internet, time, and its own material.

I also recently found out about 1925, 1914, etc.

This is a perfect example of the Stockholm Syndrome. She is a captive and is definding the vile acts of the captors.

A person has to justify a lifetime of captivity. You should feel sorry for her, not be angry.

Moshe, I'm amazed that she wasn't suspicious of your questioning.

Perhaps, she was fascinated by my openness and she wished that she could express how she felt, too. Sisters are supposed to be subservient to the brothers. Maybe she will use my comments as talking points to begin using her brain again. Maybe she logged on to the Internet last night and looked up what I talked about- ?

    Joliette,

For those of us who lived through the 1975 hype, it's really incredible to hear JWs today blithely denying that the Society ever promoted that date for Armageddon.

Society approved talks were given at assemblies and at KJs all over about how the old system would soon end and how everyone ought to spend the remaining months pioneering.

The WT praised JWs who sold their houses in order to be able to afford to do this.

No point getting married and having children.

No need to get a worldly education.

Just wait until the paradise earth.

Now, JWs who weren't even born then are telling those of us who lived through it that the tie-in to Armageddon was all OUR idea, not the Watchtower's.

Moshe's sister offered the excuse, " Maybe, I can't remember everything that happened- I was pretty young,"

but she didn't hesitate to parrot the Society's "demonization" of those who left as "all who were serving with just a date in mind."

I've just read your inital post, Moshe, and I HAD TO respond. I may have more to say as I read on...

NeonMadman said, "I really hope some JW says that to me someday so I can ask them where those few got the idea in the first place."

Well, let's see... could it have been... SATAN?
