I don't really have an opinion either way. Not sad, not happy either. People die every day. I remember my father told me in high school that the people I was running with would slowly stop being a presence in my life. I didn't understand him then. Now I do as people really do come and go. I've never met Jack Barr, so personally speaking I don't have any ill will towards him. For all I know he may have been one of the 1/3 that wanted to ease the load on the rank and file. Or maybe not? I don't know. What does it matter? He's gone, the world moves on. One day I'll die, one day you'll die. This message board may outlive everyone who's ever posted on it.

Of course not! But I would imagine HE would answer( if he could) he was glad to go
Old age is very difficult to deal with I KNOW!

He was said to be a very decent man...He was just mindcuffed as we were

How can I be happy that anyone dies?

On another note, how in the world was the governing body functioning with such old, old, old men running it? 97? Wow, if he's like my mom, he's sleeping 75% of the day.

No, makes no difference to me one way or the other.

I will be more than happy when this stupid excuse for a religion dies!!!

If only I could live long enough to see it die, unfortunately it probably will never die, it will keep changing to suck more people into it's web of shit and continue to ruin their lives.

No not really...it's hard for me to be happy he has died. The only way I would feel glad that he is gone is if he was the one pulling the strings and now things would get better for Jw's...

No, I'm not happy anyone died. But, not too many people live to be 97 years. I feel bad for his close friends and family though. He's one of the few Witnesses who everyone believes is in heaven now.

This is my take...JW's as an BORGanization is bad! Sadly it is made up of some good individual people who are duped (as most of us were at some point.)

One of the great things (or dis-service) that Knorr pulled off was to move the JW's from cult status with a central figure or leader to follow and take them a step down to high control group status. Yes we hear about the GB and all of the hurtfull decisions they have made but what always gets lost is the GB didn't come into being till the 70's.

Barr seemed to me in my limited interactions a nice old guy. thus some one who could've been easily persuaded and manipulated by the more powerfull and controlling members of the GB.

When dealing with the JW's I feel we need to be able to separate the individual from the collective. Just like I always hear folks rail against the elders...Thankfully for the most part I have worked with good bodies of elders when I was a believer. Yeah there were some assholes but they were the minority.

Ironically I just saw my old BS conductor the other day we shared a breif walk and talked about ordinary things till we reached our destination.

I rejoice that he has finally received his heavenly reward. Oh wait. . . nevermind.

I'm pretty indifferent about thiis one. 97 is a damn good run. I was glad when that PoS Jaracz went straight to hell though!
