Which is the most ridiculous religion?

This discussion reminds me of a couple of Watchtower studies in past years where the comments would be making fun of other religions. To most people, THEIR religion makes sense, other religions are ridiculous.

In one instance, the commenters were making fun of some religion because it was based on ideas and practices that were hundreds of years old. I commented, reminding the group that JWs say they are trying to practice what is often referred to as "primitive" Christianity - the way it was supposedly practiced 2000 years ago.

The other time the comments were making fun of religions that practiced human sacrafice when I pointed out that we ought to think about those comments, as Christianity is the largest religion founded on the very concept of human sacrafice, that of Christ. Could have heard a pin drop.

I'm afraid that I must agree with some of the above comments. ALL religion is ridiculous when it attempts to interpret myths as reality.

Heres an example of what you are talking about.Notice how blind you would have to be not to notice the one directional logic.

Creator book pg. 167 p 1 it says "One buddhist woman said: " I thought it did not make sense to have to suffer for something I was born with but about which I knew nothing. I had to accept it as my destiny" .She found this explanation of suffering unsatisfactory. You may also."

Doh!!! How can you notice this is just the same as what the witnesses belive, that we all suffer for Adams sin.

Are these people dull or what?!!

Some of the most ridiculous religions like Heaven's Gate, the Branch Davidians and the People's Temple may be no more, but who knows what others will follow. There are always people willing to die for their beliefs, whether it be Islamic terrorists today or someone else tomorrow. Jehovah's Witnesses who die rather than accept blood transfusions don't have a monoply on dying rather than offending their god. And none of them view it as suicide!

Since Scientology has been mentioned several times, I would like to expound on my theory.

Consider: L Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer. As I understand it, before founding the religion, he told his cohorts that anyone could start a religion.

I think that, either on his deathbed or through a posthumous book, he will reveal that this was all a huge joke - that he was just trying to make a point, and it got out of hand.

The problem with that theory is that Hubbard died in 1986. If there was such a book, it hasn't been published.

Hubbard also said, at about the same time, that he wanted to make money. I think the pricing for the different courses proves that. He was rired of being a poor sf writer. The same thing w a religion label on it sells much better. Of course he was right, anybody can start their own religion.

OK, here's another theory. The book was covered up by a massive conspiracy of Scientologists and publishers.

As someone's salutation says, this consipiracy is proven by the effectiveness of the coverup.

Oh well, at least he made a lot of money.
