Consider this, what the Gospels say about the Jewish Religious leaders may be total fabrication, blantant lies have already been identified in the Gospels.
Matthew 7 clearly says this Jesus sees himself replacing Adam at the gates of Gan Eden and he wants to be the determiner on who enters and he tells his audience that not all will make it in contrast to grandpa Adam who has a way to help all of his children, but this Jewish tidbit is hidden from the Gentile Church for obvious reasons.
To your other point, this self proclaimed all powerful Messiah let's all manner of crimes take place and does nothing to stop it but when he gets around to it, what 2000 years 40000 years from now he wipes out human civilization who do not accept him as Messiah, and you don't see that as a strange Leader.
