Could ''boredom'' at the Kingdom Hall be one reason why some members leave?

    1. Do a question and answer session where the audience gets to ask the question that is on their mind. It can be anything from "Why do we hold to 607 as the date of Jerusalems destruction instead of 586/7, to why does Revelation talk about the Great Crowd being located in heaven to why does the society ban beards?

HA HA HA like they would ever do that.

It would stop the boredom, sure, but the ensuing ruckus would have more leave than even we could hope for.

When I go, I get a few nuggets but the nuggets aren't worth the time invested---let's see getting dress, having to shave/haircut, using my gas/car.

I can get 10 times more benefit here, in the comfort of my home, without judgement(for the most part)

Be careful what kind of "nuggets" that they are before you injest them jay88!

yesidid: Yeah it would cause a ruckus because they don't have good answers for those questions. But if they think it is the truth then they should be able to clearly defend it. Even without the doctrinal questions, what about a question and answer session where someone could ask something like, "How old was Timothy when he started traveling with Paul?" or some sort of bible question that someone wanted answered.

But that violates their structural control. They have done the question and answer thing at CA's and DC's in the past. But they are questions that are read from the platform and that the WT wrote and the speaker answers them. How screwed up is that?!?

    I absolutely agree Brotherdan.

Their problem is they know their ground is so shaky absolutely no digging is allowed, or the whole thing will collapse.

They know that, we know that. but our poor deluded Witness friends and relatives don't

brotherdan that is a great list. LOL

Meetings were soooooo boring. I remember looking at the clock, looking at all the paragraphs left to cover, and just groaning. Sometimes I would blank out my mind and think about something else just to pass the time. An ex-mormon that we were talking to a few weeks ago mentioned how after not going for years and years she went to the church. It was the same old stuff that was being said 30 years ago. There was no new stuff. It made us laugh as that is exactly how the JW stuff is.

Give you an example........there's been times I've had parts on the Service Meeting where the information was taken from the BE book. The theme in the KM would look familiar, and sure enough when I'd go to get the part out, I'd notice that I already underlined various sentences and highlighted various points, with little notes and scriptures previously. So although I didn't remember actually doing the part before, the evidence was in my notes within the book!! Its like Deja-Vu. There's times when I'm standing on the stage, and I'm bored out of my mind. Half that crap you can do while sleep walking. I feel like Napolean Dynamite when he'd go, "Gawd!!!! I hate this!!! Sighhhh!!!!" Oh meetings are so boring anymore.

    Tina come get some ham!

The constant repetition is one of the mind control techniques.

If something is drummed into your head constantly (1914 parousia, FDS organization, Jesus is Michael, Armageddon is just around the corner, WTS is Jehovah's sole channel of communication, "born again" = 144,000 = heavenly class, etc.) it becomes a part of your DNA.

If the repetition is really effective, you are convinced it's the truth and no amount of evidence (even specific Bible verses to the contrary) will convince you otherwise.

Think what would happen to the WTS if they allowed genuine, thought-provoking questions without fear of reprisal at their meetings.

I have always maintained that apathy is a far, far bigger threat to active JWs than apostasy could ever be. So many of them look and sound like they're sleepwalking their way through their dreary, joyless lives.

I didn't get bored at the kingdom hall until they took away my privilege of running a microphone. That made it harder to check out all the cleavage.
