"Clearly state the publisher's full name, the names of any immediate family members. and any privileges
the publisher or his family members have enjoyed,"

    privleges they have enjoyed?!!

What if they didn't enjoy them?

    YKnot, you are priceless!

How in the world are "unlettered and ordinary men" expected to keep up with all this claptrap?

My goodness, when the time does come for them to serves as "princes in all the earth," they'll be too burned out to bother!

    Tee hee hee.

Much fine direction on the subject of letters of introduction has been included in the Shepherding textbook. For example, paragraphs 30 and 31 of chapter 3 deal with letters of introduction when elders and ministerial servants move. Paragraph 22 of chapter 7 deals with letters of introduction when a publisher with judicial restrictions moves. Paragraph 2 of chapter 10 deals with what should be sent when a disfellowshipped or disassociated person moves. And paragraphs 20 and 21 of chapter 12 provide updated direction on leuers of introduction when a known child molester or an accused child molester moves.

This is all so confusing. What they really need is a handy pull-out chart to spell out what paragraph and what chapter deals with what so that someone has a handy reference.

I notice there's no reference to letters of introduction when an obese/old/crippled/young/transgendered/fill in the blank person moves, for example.

    Truly ludicrous.

"(The last record card of an inactive
publisher should be retained indefinitely by the congregation where the publisher moved.)"

J ust WHO do I believe? In my congregation the Elders have destroyed record cards of inactive publishers; they say they have been instructed to do so by the branch office in the UK.

This was obvious recently, when the CO announced there were ONLY two inactive publishers in the cong.; I know of at least six!!

Perhaps there is another letter in the post concerning this?

PS Many thanks to YKnot for this valuable information.

It seems that we can take this as internal evidence that more people are just 'walking away'. Now we have a procedure to handle the cards in this event -- assuming the body knows where the individual moved.

What I really love about this letter is how the Society puts all the liability for what is written in the introductory letter on the local body. Sure, they tell them to include basic biographical information, no surprise there. But then they answer a question with a question: "What informati o n s hould be conveyed in the lett er of introduction ? A s k yourse lf : What information would we want to receive if this person were moving into ou r congregation?"

A typical (Reasoning-book style) non-answer that places all the risk on the local elders!

This may be nothing at all, just a normal formality, but it stood out to me ...

signatures of the Congregation Service Committee, with their names typed or printed underneath their signatures

... what stands out to me is that any documentation about publishers, personal information, restrictions, history, whatever, the correspondence should have the signature of service committee, while the Society, GB, its representatives remain anonymous in their documentation and would therefore be hard to prove any kind of individual accountability in a law suit, whereas the names of local elders making decisions carry the load in everything.

That is pittiful , they are saying you have to carry around a letter containing every little misdemeaner with you . That's insane . Could contain everything from admitted masturbation to growing a beard or drinking too much alcohol. How insane is that , forget it I refuse to be a part of that. What happened to jesus command to forgive 7 times 77? This really is a cult of control freaks and hypocrites

I am disgusted, there is no forgive and forget. It makes me wonder if we were to move they would make enquiries as to our new location and let the congregation in our new area know about us. Actually on reflection that may not be considered a bad thing.

It seems to me the elders are left open to legal measures if they send letters that may be a little too detailed.
