Is the American empire on the brink of collapse?

    Lion Cask: "Notice any difference?"

The difference, Lion Cask, is that; left handed "respect" and stating that they "could very well be proven right" notwithstanding, you still can't tell the difference between the word and the action.

As I recently stated, domination is domination no matter what word you use. So invent a word for what the US is doing to the world if you are stumbled over the semantics of the word "Empire". Whatever you call it, American Dominion is still coming down.

interestring article - (I do love America, but facts are facts)

    Empire of bases

    By Hugh Gusterson | 10 March 2009

Before reading this article, try to answer this question: How many military bases does the United States have in other countries: a) 100; b) 300; c) 700; or d) 1,000.

According to the Pentagon's own list PDF , the answer is around 865, but if you include the new bases in Iraq and Afghanistan it is over a thousand. These thousand bases constitute 95 percent of all the military bases any country in the world maintains on any other country's territory. In other words, the United States is to military bases as Heinz is to ketchup.

The old way of doing colonialism, practiced by the Europeans, was to take over entire countries and administer them. But this was clumsy. The United States has pioneered a leaner approach to global empire. As historian Chalmers Johnson says, "America's version of the colony is the military base." The United States, says Johnson, has an "empire of bases."

Its 'empire of bases' gives the United States global reach, but the shape of this empire, insofar as it tilts toward Europe, is a bloated and anachronistic holdover from the Cold War."

Isn't it amazing how so many here probably work at McDonald's, are on Welfare, or are unemployed and somehow....magically..... are experts on every subject that comes up?

What are you all doing here, on this board, with such vast knowledge at your disposal?

And don't fire back, "Well, what are you doing here then?" It's irrelevant....

I'm retired, I'm entirely independent and I'm interested in other people who demonstrate the ability to think, even if, perhaps especially if, they don't agree with me. Mostly I'm here to learn all I can about the WTS so that I may become expert at debunking it. And, although you said not to, what are you doing here?

Curtains, with respect (genuine respect, villabolo) colouring between the lines on political maps representing military treaty rights, particularly of nations that are completely sovereign, is not anything like a parallel depiction of empire, where sovereinty is assumed by the imperialist mother country. Big red Canada defied the US when it went on its ill-advised and illegal war on Iraq in 2003. Same goes for France, Greenland, New Zealand and other nations also coloured red on your map, who were promptly shat upon by the Bush administration. Not the same.

I'm thinking empire in the Athenian sense and this is also how I understand slimboyfats perception of empire.

shame this thread has died and I apologise for not coming back to it sooner.

I watched the Andrew Marr show on BBC1 here in the U.K. this morning. William Hague gave a VERY diplomatic statment regarding the crisis in Egypt, and the possible effects of massive repercussions in the Middle East.

The show concluded with a poignant up to date song from a "West Country" folk group. The song was called (If I recall correctly) Arrogance Ignorance and Greed. It was aimed straight at the Economic System, with its continued pandering to the greed of the few and the impact, this year, of Austerity on the Many.

The "System" as we know it, perpetuated by the so-called "West"... simply cannot sustain itself without a possible IMMINENT collapse. I have to agree with Moshes' comments. Such a change could hit us vitually.... Overnight now.

Sorry to carp on... but the gold in their vaults and their material possessions could be valueless. (In recent times, look what happened to Zimbabwe.. and also recollect what happened to the Deutsche Mark just prior to the Second World War).

We live in very interesting times. The US/UK grip on international affairs (Empire??) is about to be busted... I.M.O only
