Do yourself a favor and watch these...
Sadly cant see cause I'm at work but...
There are people that LIKED the starwars prequels?!?
That was great. I think he put his thumb on my lack of interest in watching the whole series. I watched the first prequel because, well, I liked the orginal series, but wasn't impressed with episode 1; I saw the beginning of episode 2 to see if it could capture my interest, but it didn't; I still haven't seen the third one.
The third one was the only one of the three worth seeing.
Watch it after watching Empire to see all the questions raised in Empire answered in Sith. It actually wasn't horrible like Phantom and retching like Clones.
Those prequels were terrible I thought. Either Lucas fell off, or maybe other directors and writers passed him up as the prequels were quite underwhelming.
One thing I really hate about Lucas is how he both underwrites and fails to develope intriguing characters, particulary villains. Darth Maul could have been the greatest villain any movie has ever been blessed to have. He could have been right up there with Anton Chigurh, or Darth Vader. Episode 1 hyped Maul like he was really going to be a major player, and Lucas dropped the ball. Boba Fett and his father, Jango, Lucas failed with them too. General Grievous was underused, and his story was skimmed over. The cartoon series did a better job than Lucas did with the films. I hate to say this, but.........Michael Bay, Brian Singer>Lucas.
Ok finally watched it...Loved his analogy!!!
I hated the prequels but this guy nicely sums up the why. The characters were poorly developed at best and his question of try to explain them was dead nuts accurate.
Now if my name doesn't give you a clue Ima go on a rant here.
MLE you are absolutely right, lucus had all the pieces to make some classic charecters and he just flat out blew it. Its like a whole different person made the 2 trilogies?!?
I will only bytch about one aspect to spare you my geekdom...BUT ITS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THIS FREAKING GENRE!!!
The force...In a new hope OB1 very elegantly explains how the force is created by life. It penetrates us binds us unites us together. Yoda goes further on that exposition in empire when he states luminous beings are we not this crude matter. Lucus SHYTTED on all of that with the GAWD-AWFUL midichlorine bullshyt?!?
I know lucus hates the expanded universe but the stories that touched on the nature of the clone war, were great jump-off points to start with (Zahn's thrawn trilogy.) In it we learn the clone wars was due to the fact clones were unstable due to the fault an exact copy of a person with the same force imprint tended to drive the clone mad, thus resulting in the clone wars.
Lovely platform to build on there...what does lucus give us? SOME BULLSHYT ABOUT DROID ARMIES?!? Really george droid fuggin' armies thats what your senile ass gives us?!? Droid armies that were BEATING JEDI's at that?!? How the fug can a droid beat a jedi with the force? You've already established that the force wins out over pretty much any machine: Han solo 'good against remotes is one thing good against the living is another.' Remember that line george? A jedi with a stray thought should be able to disarm any number of doids, and yet you have them kicking jedi ass.
Revenge of the Sith had its moments, especially at the end. Lucas did a good job of leading into Episode IV. Otherwise, the prequels paled mightily in comparison to the origianl three.
Episode III was ok, if only for the expected transmogrifiction of Anakin into Vader.
The only good thing about the first two was the fight scene with Darth Maul and Obi-wan/Qui-gon.

Yes yes yes!!!! I went to the theater the second weekend after it launched. As far as movies that I went to the theater to see and left disappointed, its a toss up between the Phantom Menace, and Lady In the Water. The whole time during the Phantom Menace, I was saying to myself, when's Darth Maul gonna come out? After a while I was salivating for him to kill anyone. Kill Anakin, Kill Qui Gon, Kill Obi, kill Amidala(sorry SD-7), hell kill me, just come out and kill somebody or something already!! All that hype, and Lucas blew it.
The graphic novel showing Maul's training is awesome by the way.
This is for those of you that can appreciate gangbanging and Star Wars..............
