Wife and I have not reported a single hour of FS in 3-4 months. While my wife is mostly doing for me (positive thing), I know she would have rather done it. Elder asked me to turn in my FS report this past week and then he added... "we need to talk"
And so it begins...

Tell the elder that you don't want to preach a tainted and corrupt commercialized Gospel
created by the Watchtower Publishing house.

Elder: "We need to talk."
Fader: "Nope, I'm good. Who's this 'we' you're talking about? Do you have a Mouse in your pocket?"

Just tell them you are busy, they will eventually capitulate and say, "well they are a hopeless cause". Of course that is assuming you want to merely fade instead of being DA'd. It will take time and depends on how popular and revered you are. All the best. -

Here for support. You can play along with it. I have told them I got fed up with the idea of counting time. And it's not that I don't do spiritual things. And compassionate things. And I'm happy now with that. When/if I get to the point of turning in time I will let them know. The elders I have delt with in my last two halls since stopping. They have gone through the routine they have to, but they are good guys and respectful of my choices. All about perception. The rat race of counting time and kissing ass wasnt good for you. -

I you want to fade relatively painlessly, don't raise any red flags of disagreement about anything the Org says or does. First, thank them, then make it clear that your reasons are private & personal, and that you are dealing with it! You'll call if things change!
Best wishes.

Elder ... added... "we need to talk"
Really? Do you have a problem with which you think I can help?
Because I'm all good!

Like this!
In that case I'd also add: I stopped submitting hours monthly because when I do it my conscience torments me a lot. Ever since I stopped reporting the hours my conscience is at peace. This may be temporary or permanent, but I don't want to violate my conscience anymore.

"Yes brother I would love to talk, but first, could you loan me $5000? We're realling going through some hard financial times. . . ."
You'll never hear from him again!
Really, you just have to say "I'm not interested in discussing anything, thanks."

LOL. Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't want to send ripples thru the family just yet. My wife is actually playing it really cool, which is not shocking but at first she wanted to do her own thing and continue with FS. Not sure exactly why she stuck to me but I am glad she shows signs of putting our family first. I think saying that "is private and personal" is probably the best answer. I must thread carefully anyway, I believe my mother-in-law suspects something is up (she lives with us). This cong and some of its elders have shown to be the type that, when they don't get a direct answer, they begin to question relatives. In fact, a couple of years ago, my own wife was questioned in my absence (I was out of town for work). I got really mad at that but she asked me to play it nice. I said I would, but I have not forgotten. If they do it again, I don't know how I am going to react.
