Franz believed in his own chronology. 6000 years+1000 year reign of Christ would seal the deal on a 7000 year "creative day."

I think Freddy was having fun with everyone, He was basically saying im so wonderful i can say anything and all those idiots will mostly believe me. Nowthat power. If you or me were to say something equally rediciulous nobody would probably believe but he managed to screw millions.

The decoupling of the creative days goes back to at least 88.... I have NEVER realised that. I've been a thicky for years....

    *** rs p. 88 Creation ***

Was all physical creation accomplished in just six days sometime within the past 6,000 to 10,000 years?

The facts disagree with such a conclusion: (1) Light from the Andromeda nebula can be seen on a clear night in the northern hemisphere. It takes about 2,000,000 years for that light to reach the earth, indicating that the universe must be at least millions of years old. (2) End products of radioactive decay in rocks in the earth testify that some rock formations have been undisturbed for billions of years.

Genesis 1:3-31 is not discussing the original creation of matter or of the heavenly bodies. It describes the preparation of the already existing earth for human habitation. This included creation of the basic kinds of vegetation, marine life, flying creatures, land animals, and the first human pair. All of this is said to have been done within a period of six “days.” However, the Hebrew word translated “day” has a variety of meanings, including ‘a long time; the time covering an extraordinary event.’ (Old Testament Word Studies, Grand Rapids, Mich.; 1978, W. Wilson, p. 109) The term used allows for the thought that each “day” could have been thousands of years in length.

*** it-1 p. 527 Creation *** The Scriptures, in stating, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Ge 1:1), leave matters indefinite as to time. This use of the term “beginning” is therefore unassailable, regardless of the age scientists may seek to attach to the earthly globe and to the various planets and other heavenly bodies. The actual time of creation of the material heavens and earth may have been billions of years ago.

I was active from 1960 to 1993 and I always understood the teaching that Gen.1:1 was distinct and seperate from the creative days regarding the preperation of the earth for human habitation. In other words the earth /universe could have existed for millions, billions of years before the Almighty decided to prepare it for human habitation .Gen 1:2 That is when he started the creative days in preparing the earth for human occupation .From the year of Adams apparent creation to 1975 (revised from an earlier date ) was supposedly 6000 years , six days , it was presumed 1000 years for a day ,6 days of groaning ( 6000 years ) under Satans influence , it would be appropiate for Jesus Christs iooo year reign ( 1 day ) to begin. Then Gen 2 :3 says "And God proceeded to bless the seventh day and make it sacred because on it he has been resting from all his work that he has made ."So what they were implying was that from 1975 onward we were living in the sabath year of creation ,1000 year rule of Christ Jesus which will take us to the year 2975 when mankind being brought to perfection will face the final test , before satan is finally destroyed along with any who follow him .

So if you dont think the witnesses can get more mileage out of their beleifs ....then think again.

On the thread about Dinosaurs and what the WT believe about them, someone posted where the WT said that Dinos were created on the 5th Creative Day, as they died out 65 million years ago, the 5th Day must have started before that.

As the Creative days must be of the same length, to be called days, where does that leave their calculation for the length of each day ?

I would say it leaves it up the famous creek without a paddle if they wish to engender some urgency about the closeness of the end of the 7th day, that must be millions of years away !

just a story to try to explain the origin of man to people of those days. a bit like a fairy story. it has no bearing on real life.

When ancient men wrote the Bible they knew very little of what we know today hence

(Genesis 1:3-5) 3?And God proceeded to say: “Let light come to be.” Then there came to be light. 4?After that God saw that the light was good, and God brought about a division between the light and the darkness. 5?And God began calling the light Day, but the darkness he called Night. And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, a first day.

6?And God went on to say: “Let an expanse come to be in between the waters and let a dividing occur between the waters and the waters.” 7?Then God proceeded to make the expanse and to make a division between the waters that should be beneath the expanse and the waters that should be above the expanse. And it came to be so. 8?And God began to call the expanse Heaven. And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, a second day.

Anything taught since is just spin.

"6000 years+1000 year reign of Christ would seal the deal on a 7000 year "creative day.""

That makes sense, However the flaw resides thinking that Jehovah started a clock at Eve's creation, the end of the 6th creative day, to start the 6000 years of man's government, then 1000 years of Christ's rule.

That was before the sin. There was no need for man vs Christ's rule.

It would make more sense to start the 6000 year clock at the first sin. That is unknown.

But as they say that it is to determine the issue of whether mankind can rule himself. That's not the issue that started at the sin and why does he need 6000 years for that?

Exactly Phizzy, I totally agree, there's no logic.

Even if they now teach that the earth is millions of years old, they still teach that humans have only been around for 6000 years, despite human remains, art work and tools that have been unearthed that date back much much further than that. They will only agree with science if it seems to harmonise with the bible, anything else must be inaccurate and flawed

The WTS took their interpretation of bible chronology counting back from 539 BC using the lifetimes of people recorded in the bible and forward in time. You need to look up how they arrived at 1975 the end of 6,000 years of human history counting from the creation of Eve (just reporting) and then adding 1,000 years for the 1,000 millenial reign. 7th day = 7,000 years; other 6 days, 7,000 years each.
