Interesting points from this week's WT Study (Dec 15 2010 Study Edition):

Par 12: " Do I encourage my children not to view the song between the Theocratic Ministry School and the Service Meeting or the one between the public talk and the Watchtower Study as a sort of intermission,an opportunity for them to leave their seats unnecessarily, perhaps just to str etch their legs?"

Why do they have to make such a big deal out of everything? So kids can't get up to even stretch their legs after sitting for 45 minutes?

Another interesting point: This is the first time I see that the WT is encouraging publishers to memorize the lyrics:

Par 13: "Many of the lyrics of our songs are tied to passages of Scripture, so learning the words of at least some of the songs can be an excellent way to sound down the truth into our hearts."

Par 11: "i f you were thrown into prison, how many of our Kingdom songs would you be able to sing from memory?"

That's a bit odd. The people writing this sh*t should have to care for 3-12 year old children during all meetings for at least a month.

It is unrealistic and unkind to expect small children to sit still for the full length of the meeting. The songs are a welcome break for those children to go to the toilet or get a drink. How much of the meeting is appropriate or geared up for children? Parents have asked children to sit still from opening song to the end of the talk or school and the children should be commended for that. The song gives children a chance to refresh and take a pause before having to sit through another 45 minutes of stuff that is not aimed at them or interesting to them. If parents deny their children 2 or 3 minutes during the song then more children will be acting up and miserable. Even in schools where children are engaged by activity and important learning they are allowed to go to the toilet or get a drink if needed.

The old songs were at least easy to remember since the music had highs and lows and the words had been sung for decades. The new songs are bland and unmemorable and people have to fight their natural instinct to sing the old words. In prison I bet even the people who wrote that bland pap would not be able to sing the new songs.

It is all about control and guilt.

It is not good for adults to sit too long at the meetings. When I was pregnant with my first child, at 20 years old, I developed deep vein thrombo phebitis at the Sunday meeting. I noticed my left leg was swelling and my right leg wasn't. I went to get up to go for a drink of water and I felt a terrible pain in my thigh/groin. The leg continued to swell until it was necessary to be taken to the hospital where I spent 21 days on complete bedrest, on a heparin drip, not even allowed to turn over. My feet were elevated the whole time. It was not fun and I'm lucky the clots did not travel to my lungs or heart.

Yeah like all the lines that are variations on "obey the governing body"

I see their paranoia isn't getting any better
