Hi all - thanks to those who replyed and were sincere (most of you). To those who were insincere - I guess i can understand your rage, hate, disgust etc with the organization.

I'm continuing my research, reading, verifying, etc with these issues. Thanks for the numerous references.

Here are some more thoughts so far:

    1. 587-607 to 1914 - all i can say is yikes...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrCleOXkYu0 is, although condescending very convincing...... I dont know if i can fully comprehend what this point means......yikes......

    2. Blood issue - transplants, immunizations, allowing fractions to conscience matter = all of this controversy added to my concerns in the first place .... again yikes....

    3. yes i see the points you have made about : reasons for attacks on russell, rutherford, early wrong and strange beliefs, origins of the JW faith - i guess from an outsiders perspective the constant attacks were more offensive than eye-opening.... i understand your reasoning.

    4. education - although i never mentioned it in my first post - here is what i said in another thread:
i also was affected by the 'evil' college discouragement. i had the grades and drive to be a doctor, lawyer or architect - instead I pioneered away 15 years of youth...now im late thirties, average technical job and im locked in..sometimes when i think of what i could have been - i cry.me.. a full grown man - I cry.

    ttyl.

MAKERSMARK- I hear what you're saying about crying over lost opportunities . I too had a 3.6 Grade point average in High School. Straight A's in English, Psychology , P.E. etc. Wanted to play major league Baseball , but my elder dad wouldn't let me play on the High School baseball team. Wanted to go to college but my then fiance wanted to Regular pioneer. So I pursued a self employed career as a " sanitation technician " - translation Janitor. 28 years worth now. So yeah, after 44 years of my life sucked out by the WT society- the last 7 years I am once again enjoying life. I can relate

    Welcome Makersmark,

After months and months of research I came to the firm conclusion that no organization on Earth can have a copyright on God. Their doctrine is full of implications and direct statements about other religions. They demonize these religions and herald their destruction. They say they have found the "truth" and that's ok in my book, but how can they expect total unquestioning allegience? It's not like their doctrine is rock solid, it's full of holes. They will lose their grip soon enough and when they do they will fade away with all the other doomsday cults that have come and gone for thousands of years.

Door to door is a highly ineffective ministry vehicle. The numbers just aren't there and similar cults have much more membership. The reason why they can hold onto this archaic method of preaching is because it's driven by volunteers. Instead of finding new innovative ways to improve the preaching work they instead focus their efforts on getting more volunteers.

I'm glad you're doing research Makersmark.

One thing I often wondered. If Jesus came and decided Russell had it right and chose his brand of faith then why would anyone believing what Russell belived today be branded 'apostate'. This doesn't make sense. How can the system of faith that Jesus HIMSELF approved now be wrong?

...........and 'New Light' doesn't cut it for me.

That Proverb about the light getting brighter was advice from a Father to a Son. If my Dad had taught me how to prepare food so I don't get poisoned and then kept changing the recipe because he kept getting it wrong, I'd either have died of food poisoning early on or given up and asked someone else.

So, I did ask someone else as the watchtower poisoned me!

Welcome to the board and thank you for your honest response to what you've been reading.

I'm impressed with the courage you've shown by looking at viewpoints that are alternative to the ones you've held. You owe it to yourself and to those over whom you have oversight to be absolutely sure you know where you stand on these issues. The change to the generation teaching in the 90's was a huge issue for me, but even then I managed to regroup and carry on for a number of years. I think for many of us that went through that, this latest change has stretched the society's credibility beyond the breaking point. I understand the fear you feel. You've embarked on an interesting journey, and I'm confident that having stopped here along the way will not hurt you. I wish you success on your continued investigation!

Welcome. Never stop reading. Never let them tell you information and critical thinking is "dangerous."

I know right now you're into researching doctrinal stuff but when you want to expand into the politics and injustice and paranoia and lies at the upper eschelons of the Watchtower, you will love reading Crisis of Conscience.
