You are right about that! I was in a Spanish congregation for 3 years and man oh man at least 1/2 of the congregation was not just fat but obese, kids, too.

Smoking isn't mentioned in the bible but gluttony IS! Jehovah hates it...But yet they don't follow his laws when they don't expel people for it....

this is a totally valid argument, one ive thought about myself and even raised when confronted about being a smoker, by those who are definitive overeaters. but alas logic does not have a place in the wt teachings..

but yeh its a genuine valid point

Because of the prohibition on higher education, and pushing people out in service, all they have time and money for is McDonald's. And the greasy dollar menu at that. It is systemic, so they will not DF people for becoming fat turds.

Truthlover--*shudder* That bit about the cleanliness thing may not have been strictly stated in the old Elders book but it was insinuated. My childhood was a living hell because of the congregation stigmatizing us for our lack of cleanliness. My mom was bed-ridden and my dad worked full time. Us kids had not clue how to keep things clean. My dad and brothers were deprived of any privileges and even their commenting was curtailed. To this day the one thing that makes me hate God is anything having to do with cleanliness, purity, sanctification, etc.

there was a time when I beleived it was the truth......I had settled down some... was married.. had a study started .But could not stop smoking...good thing cuz I may have become a JW......I also have a Thyriod problem...Thats what pills are for....once you take the pills...no GLAND problem!!! duh!!I'm not fat...I have many friends with hypo-thyriod.. A pill fixes it.....Some people are big people.....but there comes a point when it's because they EAT to much food......They have a problm much like my smoking.I admit it's a BIG PROBLEM....Fat people and smokers should not be kicked out of the kingdom!!! But why one and not the other???? After all we know witch one is talked about in the bible.......Raised a JW but never Baptised.....

they did say that smoking was a drug......I forgot to ask them about caffine! lots of drugs in coffee..LOL I dont drink it...never liked the taste!

Chocolate and coke (cola) have caffeine too and I know of people addicted to them. Not to mention prescription drugs.

They think they can keep things simple and the blood issue just proves how complicated things can become.

I posted this same thing. Well, almost. I said being overweight was a health risk like smoking. A few people didn't see the point I was trying to make about the uneven rules of the WTBS and got offended because they're overweight.

A headline at the time said obesity is the #1 killer. Not smoking. So if obesity is so harmful to your health, why is it allowed? I thought that's why smoking was a DF offense. You're not preserving the body God gave you.

I think people can be fat if they want to. They can smoke if they want to. It's their body. I'm just saying it seems like both are harmful and the JWs have double-standards.
