Obesity is not just a case of eating too much. It is a case of taking in more calories than you are expending in daily energy.

So many people have office jobs or other jobs where they sit on their butts all day, yet eat as though they were still a growing teenager, so they put on weight. They don't necessarily have to be chowing down on donuts and thickshakes all day in order to be fat. It can be a case of simple maths.

Not all overweight people hang out at McDonalds all day. It's a sterotype.

They would kick someone out for smoking because it wasn't healthy

Just a slight clarification, the primary reason smoking is on the DF list is becasue they link "drug use" to "spiritism", i.e., along the lines of "using drugs opens your mind up to demon attack". The health reason alone is not why smoking is a DF offense.

I know, I know, I KNOW, it's hypocritical to single out nicotine while very likely more than half of JWs are addicted to caffeine, or painkillers, or alcohol, or antidepressants....but that is the "official reason".

That would result in many pio-sneers having to reduce field circus hours to get healthier foods, and then they would drop off the pio-sneer list because they had to quit at 11:30 instead of going to McDonald's at 12:20. And that would not be tolerated.

Smoking, on the other hand, takes time away from field circus. Every time someone lights a cigarette, that is 5 minutes of time they are not actually going from door to door. Smoking also wastes the equivalent of roughly 1/3 ounce of silver per pack (though, with silver moving up so much, that is getting closer to 1/4 ounce a pack). This is "money that is better spent donating to the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund". As coffee also takes time away from field circus and money from the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund, I would expect bans or restrictions on either coffee altogether or taking coffee breaks during field circus at some point.

sir 82 I know they link smoking to spiritism but they also use chicken in spritism also. So I quess we should not order chicken nuggets at McDonald's or we could be DF. As far as coffee goes. Guility as charged. With ADD it is my drug of choice with a little cream thank you. Totally ADD

Obesity is not just a case of eating too much. It is a case of taking in more calories than you are expending in daily energy.

In other words, taking in too many calories. Eating more calories than you need. I fail to see the difference. If you're sitting on your butt all day, then you don't need as many calories and shouldn't eat as much as somebody working heavy construction. If you're eating more than you need, you're eating too much.

Granted, it's not just the amount of food, it's the calories too. There's a lot of difference between fried chicken and a grilled chicken breast, although the amount of chicken may be the same.

Bottom line is you're probably eating too much.

I thought it was interesting that the passages in Leviticus instructing the Israelites to abstain from eating blood because it belonged to Jehovah and was to be offered to him in sacrifices (Leviticus 7:26) were immediately preceded by instructions to abstain from eating fat for the very same reason.

And Jehovah continued to speak to Moses, saying: "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'YOU must not eat any fat of a bull or a young ram or a goat. Now the fat of a body [already] dead and the fat of an animal torn to pieces may be used for anything else conceivable, but YOU must not eat it at all. For anyone eating fat from the beast from which he presents it as an offering made by fire to Jehovah, the soul that eats must be cut off from his people.

"'And YOU must not eat any blood in any places where YOU dwell, whether that of fowl or that of beast. Any soul who eats any blood, that soul must be cut off from his people.'" ~ Leviticus 7:22-27 NWT

The WTS puts so much emphasis on abstaining from blood, but the OT places equal weight on abstaining from fat for its sacrificial value, which is not required of JWs at all.

I agree, you've simply said it more clearly than me. What I was trying to say, was that people assume people are overweight because they eat donuts and chocolate bars all day. But it could be a simple case of eating more than is necessary for their calorie consumption. This is often the case for office workers or drivers who sit down all day (for example).
