    Myelaine:

"islam seems to have gobbled up every culture in its path, do we want to wait until we are intimidated before we "push back" against it? or should we stand up for our sons before the situation is critical?...there comes a time, doesn't there, that one has to BE patriotic or risk losing forever that which we love."

Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds. Do you need me to rattle off a list of cultures which are not one bit influenced by Islam or Muslims?

"This is contrasted with the governments of Christian nations who have abandoned similar dramatic or violent parables of law as set out in the Bible, instead extracting and developing a relatively un-invasive rule of law."

Have you ever heard of Christian Reconstructionism (Dominionism)? As an actual movement it is small but it has spread its ideological tentacles throughout fundamentalist Chrisitianity. Palin's husband was a member of a Reconstructionism.

How many innocent people have these Christian extremeists murdered?

The Islamic mainstream is waaay too quiet on the Jihadists atrocities in the name of Allah. Something is obviously wrong. Either they are intimidated cowards or they quietly support their methods.

Glander: "How many innocent people have these Christian extremeists murdered?"

These Christian extremists do not have the power YET to have a major impact on this nation. But it's simply a matter of time. You can get a sense of that by the following list:

    1. Shelley Shannon, who murdered the abortion doctor George Tiller, was associated with the following Christian extremist group...
    2. An organization Known as the Army of God which sanctions violence against abortion doctors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_of_God_(USA) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-abortion_violence#Violence_by_Army_of_God
    3. Another Christian terrorist organization: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Covenant,_The_Sword,_and_the_Arm_of_the_Lord
    4. The shooting at a Jewish day care center was carried out by a member of the Phineas Priesthood : http://www.adl.org/backgrounders/an_phineas.asp
    5. A group called Concerned Christians, who disappeared from their homes and jobs and went to Israel in order to destroy a Muslim Mosque. This was suppoed to facilitate the return of Christ. They were discovered and deported by Israeli authorities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concerned_Christians
    6. The Hutaree Christian Militia who were arrested in polce raids in two states for planning to kill police officers. They thought that the Antichrist would be supported by local, state and federal police deprtments. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hutaree
    7. There are even Christian extremist groups in other countries like India. One of them is known as The National Liberation Front of Tripura. This group is described as one of the ten most active terrorist groups in the world. It has forced Hindus to convert to Christianity at gunpoint. It receives arms from a local Baptist church which is said to encourage them to kill Hindus, particularly their infants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_terrorism#India

BUT I believe that it is not in the best interests of myself and my family to live under those same precepts and so therefore when the muslim population starts to make noises in the direction of introducing their sharia law in the host country I see a distinct lack of respect for the system we choose to live under.

This is the mistake everyone keeps making. First, Sharia law only applies to muslims. If you're not muslim, you're not under it. Second, our country guarantees us freedom of religion. We cannot make laws that establish a religion, it's not allowed period. Which muslims are you talking about that are making noises about introducing sharia here? I'm going to guess that's not true for the following reason:

Sharia is already practiced here. Did you know that? And I don't mean stonings and honor killings, that's enforced by Middle Eastern theocracies (and ftr, many Muslim Americans do not agree that those countries are practicing Sharia, that's the way it's interpreted by those backwards governments). If they happen here, they are punished because it violates the laws of our country. Sharia encompasses what foods they eat, where they invest money, how they marry and divorce, how they're buried, how to pray, etc. It's very similar to Jewish law, and no one makes a stink about that anymore. Think about this, muslims have lived in this country for how long? During that time they've always practiced sharia. How has it affected you?

When someone says sharia or muslims are a threat to this country, I always wonder if they really understand sharia and if they understand what rights we have in this country. And if it's something that concerns you the solution is very simple: support seperation of church and state! Everytime your fellow believers try to tear that down, they make it easier for the muslims they fear to establish as law that sharia they fear so much. I wonder if they realize that.

No, they're not! Google Islam or muslims speaking out against or denouncing terrorism. I guarantee you'll get thousands of links. Check youtube too. Then ask yourself why you've never seen that reported by anyone on any mainstream news network. That's what's troubling!

I'd also like to point out that the group most victimized by muslim terrorists and extremists are other muslims. It's only when it happened to us that we noticed. And you can check the FBI's website for statistics on terrorist groups in this country. The ones that most affect us, that commit terroristic acts that hurt our citizens, are not muslim. It's disheartening that we've been so easily led to hate this group of people because extremists of their religion have twisted it and hurt people. It makes me ashamed of my country. It's not Islam, it's extremism in all it's forms that's the problem. The sooner everyone realizes that, the better.

Dana Bug, Ibn Warraq, in his great "Why I am not a Muslim" disagrees. So does Ayan Hirsi Ali in "The Caged Virgin". They say the extremists are not the problem. The mindset is. Among their articles of faith is good ol' "Do not suffer an unbeliever to live".

Ibn Warraq says that Muslim zealots have destroyed not just the Buddhas of Barniyan, but so many Christian churches in the Middle East. They also had something against the Pyramids in Egypt, but they were so massive that they couldn't be destroyed. They took it upon themselves to destroy Hindu art, because it was also polytheist.

Ibn Warraq claims that their great philosophers and doctors were great philosophers and doctors because they were not Muslim. Their philosophy is what survived of Greek philosophy among them. Painting does not exist as an art, because Muhammad was against icons. Whatever has survived int he way of painting, it's been because it comes from others, not Muslims. The same happened with Medicine, Math and the like.

Ibn Warraq says Muslims were responsible for the virtual disappearance of Buddhism from India. All this, in the good ol' way of killing everyone.

In "Why I am not a Muslim", the question is also posed of why we know so little about Arabia before Muhammad. Well, they left no one alive to tell the story.

If they could have their way, all people would learn would be the Koran in their madrassas.

We like to think it's the extremists. It's not. The same was true of Christianity, by the way. Oh, sorry, Christendom. On second thought, Christianity and Christendom. Monotheist faiths are intolerant by virtue of their very basic belief.

How can any who belong to a religion and believe in a god not see that religion and the irrational belief in a god is the root of evil?

How can any who belong to a religion and believe in a god not see that religion and the irrational belief in a god is the root of evil?

Because it isn't true. I know it isn't true, because not everyone who believes in God or is part of a religion is hateful or hurtful. Some... many... are inspired to be better, to care more, to do more, to love others. It cannot be the root of evil, unless every religious person (or faithful person, since they are not always the same) is inspired to do evil.
