  A JW came in as I started my shift today and said that he tried to contact me before but I wasn't there.

  I'm deaf and the brother was from an ASL congregation.

  I used to do calls like that but didn't realize how irritating and upsetting it could be for the employee/householder.

  I told him that I used to be a JW but quit.

  He asked me if I was under discipline or df'd or something.

  WTF?!

  I told him no, I just quit due to a personal tragedy (armed robbery in '04) and the congregation was not supportive at all when I needed them due to PTSD.

  I told him that it just ceased filling my spiritual need.

  I did NOT tell him that it fought me tooth and nail about sign language interpreting there, but it did.

  Just that 10 minute or so interruption in my work of all things JW really upset me.

  I guess it takes being out of it for a while to see just how intrusive and bothersome JW's can be.

  Here is why he knew about me and I just found this out a couple of days ago: MY BOSS IS A BORN-IN JW!

  Egg said to tell her that I don't appreciate being contacted for that kind of thing at work.

  I don't want to upset the apple cart because I really like my boss.

  She's the most fantastic boss I've ever had, and I've never been personally visited by JW's at work before. This is the first time and hopefully the last.

  Three of my co-workers are studying, too.

  Did I mention that my boss and most of my co-workers are Spanish speakers (Mexicans mostly)?

  Maybe I should tell them next time if they come to see me to take me off their list and never come to see me at my place of work, again.

  Oh you poor thing! What a predicament ...

  I have to be honest, I don't know what I would do.

  Finding out your boss is a JW and having to work there?

  And then having the JW's call on you AT WORK?

  My first instinct is to run but I know how hard good bosses are to find AND jobs..

  IS IT LEGAL for sales cos. to contact you at work. They could really cause problems and distress to one. IDIOTS! sounds like the tower is really cornering the market on the deaf people - SAD.

  your Boss won't preach to you on the job because she could be walkin' a legal tight rope

  so to play it safe she could have sent in someone who wasn't affilliated with the job to preach to you

  If your boss where to preach to you, or try and get you back in herself, and then down the line

  she gives you a bad job evaluation, you could claim that she gave you a bad evaluation because you

  didn't go back to bein' a JW, that would be claiming religious harrassment and that's against the law

  of course you would have to prove that was the reason for the bad evaluation

  I had a shepherding call take place at my workplace once. It was 1 bro alone though. He cried in front of like 12 of my coworkers and 50 customers. He said he was scared for me because jehoopla was going to have his birds pluck my eyeballs out (or whatever the threat du jour was). \\

  He made quite a scene. My coworkers assumed we were having an affair! The other customers were asking me what was going on. Why else would a man my dad's age be visiting a teenager at work and weeping over missing her?

  It was the oddest, oddest thing. He wasn't a weirdo before that, and we weren't close at all. So, so out of character for him. I think his daughter had just gotten on jehovah's holy eyeball plucking list and he was on a mission to save all the other teens...or something like that.

  Obviously he was in some sort of state that had little to do with me, but it still really creeped me out and annoyed me that he screwed with me at my job. I told him I am sorry you're upset and thanks for your concern, but this is really inappropriate and unwanted--please don't contact me.

  I'd forgotten about that until just now...

  I'll bet your visit was really a visit to encourage TM you??

  My boss didn't know I used to be a JW.

  It's taken a whole year (next month) for me to find out she was a JW.

  She's completely professional on the job and the sweetest soul.

  When she said she was a JW, I said that I used to be one.

  It's okay. I'm not keeping any secrets here.

  I've got no JW history here.

  She even knows I'm pagan.

  From what I remember in doing field service with the ASL congregation, we'd go into businesses and ask if there were deaf employees there.

  I think this is where it all got started. Bet she got all excited to be able to say YES!

  You mean the employers allow JW's to interupt their workers on the job???? what kind of bussinesses were theses ?

  Well, what we did was after hitting the known deafies on the territory card (short list of addresses), we'd begin going door to door asking if the people knew of any deaf neighbors or where they were located, and we'd make a note of the location given.

  If a bizness was the next door, we'd ask if there were any deaf people there.

  Yes, the bosses always got the person, if there was one to be gotten.

  They were nice about it.

  I think the bosses may have thought it was a charitable act to link up the poor deaf person with others in the community.

  We are a bit of an isolated lot, sometimes.
