WAS NEW BOY:
I feel somewhat like you do that there are 'things' coming upon the earth that aren't too pleasant - to put it mildly. And it has nothing to do with the JWs. Other people and other religions have been making these predictions, so the JWs don't have a monopoly on end-of-time prophecies.
While I do think it is wise to have provisions in your house, such as canned food, water, toilet paper, first aid and batteries, etc. -- these things will only last for so long. Maybe somebody here and there might be able to hoard several months worth of provisions. But, ultimately, if society breaks down and if there is a catastrophic situation (like what is happening in Japan right now), it won't matter much in the long run. Having these provisions is great but this is in the hopes that life gets back to 'normal' sometime soon. But, what if it doesn't get back to normal? What then?
FINALLY FREE:
You are absolutely right. In the event of a MAJOR catastrophe, you won't even be able to buy necessities - no matter how much silver, gold or baubles you may offer. It will be every man for himself. Never mind who is president/prime minister. It won't matter.
