I had some friends who left the WT about the same time I did. They remained Christian in their beliefs. But they could not get rid of the exclusivety concept that they learned in the tower. They kept finding ways to show how they were better than other christians just like JW's do.
One of the things they picked on was the name Jesus. They gave me the whole Jesus is really the name of the pagan God Zeus speech. I looked into it myself and told them I just did not agree with them. I said Jesus to me is the Christ, he is my Lord, he knows I belong to him. Jesus is the name accepted by most Christians, I have no problem using it, but they can use Yeshua if they wish. To tell you the truth I sing a song called yeshua, so I do use that name also.
Anyway, I even asked them how can we know we are pronouncing any of the biblical names correctly? I don't think it matters if we use Jesus or Yeshua, What matters is we recognize WHO Jesus really is.
Anyway, needless to say, I was not one of the elect like them because I still chose to use the name Jesus and they stopped associating with me. I think they were just small minded. Still to me calling on the "name" Jesus has less to do with pronunciation and more to do with recognizing Jesus of Nazareth as the Christ and our Lord and Savior. Peace, Lilly

Shelby cannot mean what you think she means when she speaks of using the correct name (just pronunciation) or hearing nothing, because she did not call on that name when she was answered. She announces the name she was given now because she refuses to speak any more lies (such as with the WTS), but she was answered before she knew that name.
I believe she has also previously stated that God makes allowances for those who approach him using 'Jehovah' or calling on 'Jesus' because they know of no other name, but who are approaching them in sincerity of spirit - because of who HE is, because of his understanding. So something is lost in translation here concerning what Shelby has said and what people are hearing. Perhaps I am not understanding?
But I will try to explain this in another light, with what I think I understand:
If you are approaching God with all the conceptions that Christianity has taught you about him - such as he is described by the WT, or the hell-lovin' folk thinking that he will actually send people to be burned for all eternity in unimaginable torture (or any other false thing that you have accepted without even asking through Christ if it is even true) - then how can you be approaching him at all? Aren't you approaching something that is made up by men, something that does not in fact exist?
But if you approach through the One He sent to make his name manifest (not just in pronunciation, but also in spirit), the God and Father of Christ, made manifest by Christ... then you might be dealing with the God who does exist. Or at least you might be approaching in all sincerity and humility.
"No one comes to the Father except through me."
I have no other insight as to this, and I am not contradiction Shelby even, because I think I understand what she means. I also know that if I am carrying around any baggage from the WT, using the 'correct name or don't be heard' is that baggage. Because it was one of those big ones that I had trouble swallowing.
Peace to you all,
Tammy

editied) I thought This thread was started to discuss Jesus' name, not to debate atheists.
Considering Cofty's name was mentioned in the title of this thread, he has every right to say whatever he wants.

I don't know, all I know is I'm getting ready to hit the sack and its really difficult to concentrate on these deep threads when getting ready to pass out. So can you tell me what you're talking about in ready to pass out language?

God will whack anyone particularly the ones that didn't worship him or who may have worshiped another god,
doesn't matter if you knew him or not he will definitely whack you. Innocent children, the Handy-capped doesn't matter.
That reminds me I haven't made a burnt offering for awhile, time to scour over the neighborhood for some house pets that
are easy to catch. I always use the barbecue so my neighbors don't get suspicious
