I got a kick out of that, watersprout
But you broke my heart with your Radiohead comment. More apostasy.
Most of mine have already been mentioned, but I also have to mention Springsteen and Dylan. I do not hate them but I feel they are way overrated. Every album Bruce spits out the folks at Rolling Stone magazine give it 5 stars.
Also overrated was the Strokes, the Vines, Snoop Dog and Little Wayne.
I like some of AC/DC, but if you listen to Highway to Hell and Back in Black, you have heard pretty much everything they have released.
I know this may chap some, but I also think Eric Clapton is overrated. I like some of his material but I do not get the "Clapton is God" folks.
And the Justin Bieber thing is really getting to me. Arrgh!!

I'm sorry, but it's the way i feel. Carrot loves Radiohead and says i have no taste in music! Apostate i am!
Peace
My favorite band that has so shaped my life is the Beatles. Bob Dylan's lyrics I adore. Covers of his songs are awesome. I was fortunate to have my mom give me permission to wait outside Madison Square Garden all night to get tickets for both Bangladesh performances. Such a Beatles fan. Dylan had been very reclusive. All we knew was that he suffered a motorcycle accident. We thought he was completely paralyzed. The crowd went out of their minds when it announced he might perform. Decades later, I can remember the sheer excitement and hope. His reclusivenss made him a hotter catch than George, Ringo and Clapton. He stepped up (after he told Geroge he was going to walk out and George said no, you are not) and started. The set was pure bliss. What were mere Beatles compared to Bob Dylan. A few months later, he gave a commercial concert at the Garden. I wanted a refund.
I despise hip hop. All of it. It may be cultural. I force myself to listen sometimes, assuming I am racist. Despite my conscience, I despise it. When I was in high school, I despised rhythm and blues. There were racial riots. We were not allowed to listen to white music so the blacks were placated. I was part of an official delegation of college bound students that asked for a ten minute block of Beatles, Stones, the Who, Dylan. We were told no. Today, I adore it. I purchased several albums. I now see it not either/or but and.
I don't like easy jazz or most pop. Lady Gaga, Madonna, etc. Give me a break. I started a Beatles fan, converted to folk, too. Classic rock is my basic music structure. I loved dressing up and going to Lincoln Center to go to classical concerts and the opera. I love it, now. It requires some introduction, just the way art does. Justin Timberlake, Michael jackson - give me a break. Pop is so commercial. Somehow I even love church music. The demise of small record stores and the advent of itunes has exposed me to many varietes of music. My life is richer. I've reconnected with my inner teenager.
Guess who is coming to my town this year? Paul McCartney. Oh what delight. Of course, I can't keep my mind off how old he is now, which is immediately followed by thoughts that as my honorary older brother, I am not far behind him. Whatever, we rock on. When I first started my Beatles mania, I never thought I'd be listening to them the next year. I love my music. Music is the antidote to the cult. It heals me in places the Witnesses could not invade. I neglected to mention that I had to pay for all my Beatles loot. No Beatles gift came from my parents. I even paid for my stereo system. The greatest punishment growing up was the constant confiscation of all my Beatles stuff by my JW father. Not just the albums but my official fan club material, newspaper and magazine clippings, written sheets of loose leaf paper where I wrote theri names on and on. I was not allowed out of the house their concerts at Shea. I had no idea where Queens was and had no money. Lectures ensued.
A month ago I watched Paul receive the Gershwin prize at the White House. Sweet, sweet revenge. The NYPD honored the Who for the benefit after 9.11.
OMG - The Watchtower Kingdom Songs with the magenta cover. The brother said we needed them because we were singing to "Beethoven as in canned beets".
If I hated the song, I'd just change the station. Years ago, I remember
"Freebird" and "Stairway to Heaven" being on the radio so much it was regularly
joked about. I don't know about "hated," but I couldn't believe the Rolling
Stone list of 100 best guitarists ever that left Django Reinhardt off the list,
especially considering some of the people on it. One example--I like Allman,
named the 2nd best ever on the list, on "Statesboro Blues" and "One Way Out," but
for his slide on "Layla" like on "Key to the Highway"? It sounds like a goof
on hillbilly stuff to me--I usually skip to the snazzier Clapton solos on that.
