Now that I've read some of the other drivel posted by this "StopTheTears" person, I regret wasting the time and bandwidth to respond on this thread. This person is quite obviously a troll.
I've come to this conclusion too.

Please lets debate the subject rather than just resorting to the WTS-esque labelling and dismissing of people.

OK, well I'll add my 2 cents.
Alcohol has been in society for thousands of years, it is not a new concept. The egyptions recorded using alcohol and it probably went back to prehistoric man. Even cows get drunk if left in an apple field as do elephants on rotten apples. Monkeys left in a safari park picnic area will choose alcohol over soft drinks or water.
So something else has changed... possibly that mass media is bringing the worst offending pictures of chavs fighting on a Saturday night righ into your living room from around the world. Populations are getting larger and yet people are taking less personal responsibility, this is partly due to problems in society, not with alcohol itself.
It is obvious that some people have problems with alcohol and others make the concious decision to drink and drive which is irresponsible and usually illegal.
A 15-year-old who died Saturday after a tragic early morning car crash involving three other teens on a northern B.C. highway has been identified by police.......
........The driver and passenger, both 17-year-old boys, were wearing seatbelts.
........Const. Laura Lechky said police believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel, but alcohol was not involved.
I guess we should ban sleeping too. Or maybe just recognize the behaviours that result in tragic outcomes.
I will qualify it. Alcohol, used sparingly, is treated as a food. When abused, it becomes a drug. At that, I feel it's the safest of the psychiatric drugs--far safer than the antidepressants and the Xanax that are too commonly prescribed. And safer than the fluoride that is put in your water (at least it doesn't totally destroy your bones, when used responsibly).
However, even this safest of psychiatric drugs can be dangerous. Abused, it can ruin the brain and the liver. It also impairs your judgment, and the results are obvious when you abuse alcohol and then drive. You can go to jail (no, this is no mere "traffic infraction"--DWI is a misdemeanor, or even a felony at times). And, you can wreck your car, getting hurt or killed (and/or hurting or killing others at the same time). And it can be addictive--beyond the "problem drinkers". Problem drinkers include those who are not strictly addicted to alcohol but depend on it to mask problems. (Usually creating more than they mask.)
If you choose to drink, I recommend moderation. I see nothing wrong with having the occasional beer or glass of wine if you so choose. But, if you choose to get drunk, you alone will bear the consequences (that is when it will ruin your brain and liver). If you drink and drive, however, that becomes a public safety problem and you are breaking the law. If you drink, do it responsibly.
There's no way I'm going to one of your parties WTWizard ;)

Simon, this is the person who posted (on her very first thread here) that marital sex is essentially sinful.
Jeez, I'm not going to one of their parties either!
I drink at home 1 or 2 beers max, and If I go out and have 1 beer.............. then I'm evil?
I'm sorry, and really feel for those........
I frequently drive in urban areas, where pedestrians walk in from of the vehicle. I'm very aware of the killing power of a vehicle.
I sometimes shudder at the thought, and pray that I don't kill even when in the right!
Wonder how StopTheTears reconciles the clear fact that the biblical accounts of Jesus clearly show him not only drinking wine, but miraculously making wine.
