It has come to my attention that a new Internet radio show will debut this Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 10 PM EDT. I'm looking forward to seeing how it takes shape. I wanted you to know about it.

"Mad Sweeney discusses issues relating to high control religions and their methods of recruitment and retention of members."

Gayle: Since it's currently being called "radio", I'm left to assume that it's audio-only. (However, the USTREAM platform does support video, obviously.)

I'm hoping that the organizer will visit this thread and provide a few more details.

    Thanks for the support, everyone.

U-stream DOES support video but believe me, nobody wants to look at my face for 10 minutes, let alone an hour or two.

If you click on the link Leaving posted you will see/hear an intro. It is a video much like youtube, except the screen is blank and you only hear voice. There is a chatbox to the side of the screen where listeners can type in comments which I will try to address in a sort of organic and conversational manner.

People will also be able to request what u-stream calls a guest host, and I will be able to select who to let on the air and who not to. I think, though I am uncertain since this is all brand new to me, to do that you would need to be registered with u-stream, which is free.

On your u-stream page you will probably want to have the video setting turned to "none" or have your webcam facing the wall if you want to keep your face hidden, though again, I am not sure of that either. My "no video" settings may override any guest host's settings.

This first show will be a learning experience for us all. I look at it as a kind of structured online meetup as much as a radio show. I certainly don't want to hear myself talking the entire time, unless it is in response to the chatbox comments/questions/conversation. I definitely understand if people don't want their real voice heard and would rather me relay their typed text comments.

So I hope I'm making sense and we can have a good time with this.

For the record, if you are logged on with some anonymous handle that I don't recognize and you ask to be allowed to speak, there is a good chance I will refuse you permission. If you make some good relevant comments in the chatbox and indicate you would prefer to say them yourself, maybe I'll let you through rather than read them. I'm going to be winging it based on the flow of conversation and my mood. If I know you from here or JWR or Facebook, you have a good chance of getting through. Otherwise, just chatbox and listen and have fun.

Did I cover everything? I'll be glad to answer any other questions if I can.

@publishingcult a good radio service is blogtalkradio, that system allows you to take callers on air in a neat organized program.
other website servers like godaddy and others may offer a stream service as well.
