Hey Paula . . . I just read your post on your "phone phobia" . . . I used to hide in the closet whenever the phone rang . . . don't do it anymore but still never answer it myself . . . never thought about it much but didn't consider others might be similarly disposed. I laugh about it now . . . but it wasn't funny at the time.
Just nice to know I'm not alone on that one . . . I thought it was my own special brand of crazy!
Oh no sizemik, youre not that special! hahaaha...its quite common actually. The person with anxiety issues imagines "bad news" when the phone rings....and of course, as with life, sometimes it was. So they begin avoidance.....I got rid of my home phone years ago. Im ok with texting though so at least I have some sort of lifeline should I need it. Our brains are so powerful....mines been on the blink for a while now.!!
Did you get my PM, it was rather a long one.....but I want you to know Im here for you thats all.
I love being in the crazy club anyway, wouldnt life be boring if we were all the same................kinda like the robots in the KH! So glad Im unique!
Best wishes to you Sizemik.x
Hey Paula,
You've received lots of great advice here. I don't think that I could add much more.
As to your phone phobia, I have a sort-of phobia about phones... but it's their bells and ringing that I don't really care for.
My first career started off with me in radio. My job was to 'baby-sit' the radio transmitters of the local radio stations. This was a job that had me sitting in a shack out in some isolated field with the radio antennas and radio transmitter. It was a nice job, and usually quiet - unless something went wrong.
Then the bells, claxons and other noise-generating alerts would go off. There was a bell for loss of radio carrier. A bell for loss of audio. A bell for loss of...well, you name it - there was a bell that would go off.
And then the disc-jockeys would call from the studio downtown to ask why we were 'off the air'.
So, to this day, I kinda don't like telephone bells going off... but I don't let it control me. I just have an answering machine - or voice mail - that can usually take the call if I don't get to it in time.
Hang in there Paula... enjoy life.
Regards,
Jim TX

Yes I did and thank you . . . I checked out the site but haven't registered yet . . . but I know I will . . . I'm a terrible procrastinator and still new to Forums . . . this is the first one I joined and my first post came after three days of hand-wringing. The experience has been so rewarding though . . . and only got better when you came along.
