Scully, I was also told I the same thing about being too smart for my own good. I was one of those uppity women folk, thinkin' and gettin' all them idears... Toward the end of my JW-ishness, I started wearing pants to the meetings. THAT was a lot of fun.

I always thought I was smarter than everyone. Great standardized test scores, perfect grades, PLUS I had da troof! College humbled me a lot, thank God. I was an arrogant pain in the ass.

What amaxes me still is the understanding that those preaching from "Christendom" have. They are very knowledgeable in scripture in many areas. Their teaching on going to heaven I don't ascribe to, but as far as their being "Scripturally Ignorant", as I've heard it said in many JW circles is really not true at all. They've helped me to see things scripturally that JW never have.

I was already well educated when I went into it ...which makes me feel more stupid...

I'm with Loz. I really can't believe I fell for it.

an intellectual ? I dont know, but I always thought I am intelligent, and had never a fear of discussing anything. However, even in service, most people have no idea how to talk to JW. Their arguments are easy refuted.

Now, after reading a lot on the internet, I wonder how so long I swallowed such nonsense, even defended it. unbelievable, to the point, where today I question my intelligence more than ever....

Intelligence is the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge. I was always good at that.

As a born-in active JW, the knowledge that came my way was very limited.

I too am amazed that it took me so long to finally wake up and walk away, but intelligence has little to do with it, some very intelligent people are still stuck in.

excellent point, wobble, its an absolut information-control the society uses.

additonally who really takes time to check the information given, when your supposed to trust the society, and any "apostate" info is just lies and demonized anyway.

It was pounded into me meeting after meeting that I was unworthy of inclusion into a group of people that I didn't like and that didn't like me. "Adios, amigos!"

Most JW's think they are so damn smart. They have NO (And I mean no) idea. First and foremost they really think that a kingdom hall is different from a chruch. A kingdom hall IS a chruch. Dumb asses!

I felt the label "intellectual" was a negative one having grown up in a university town and working at the university.
