Not to mention the impossibilty of building a wooden ark that would stay together and float for more than a week.
GLOBAL FLOOD . . . Did it Really Happen?

The obstacles the Global flood scenario has to overcome are fundamental and manifold.
What's intriguing is how quickly detractors to the theory are seen as the bad guys . . . the decievers . . . the ungodly.
Or is that just me . . .

The reason that Antarctica has fossils of palm leaves etc is because it wasn't always at the South Pole.
The continents drift over the molten rock and thus slide and sometimes crash (slowly) into each other. It is the reason why we have the Himalayas and other large mountain ranges.
Anyone who is interested in this can look up Continental Drift Theory.

sizenik,
Here is all you need to know. It is way over a 100 pages, but it demolishes the bullshit about a global flood. It was written years ago by my good friend Alan Feuerbacher while he was a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts who was ALSO a dub at the time and was trying to DEFEND the notion of a global flood.
He, being the physics guy and engineer that he was, disovered that the global flood story was a big pile of bullshit and physically and scientifically impossble to justify.
If you care anything about facts, and are not a lazy asshole, then read ALL of this:
http://corior.blogspot.com/2006/02/part-1-general-description-of-flood.html
Oh, by the way, newbie, RTFM. Before you think you have an original thought or an original question, ask youself, "is it possible that people have actually had that question and had it answered before I did in my infinite wisdom, and dared to ask it before I dared to ask it? Or I am too lazy to find the answer to that and will take the chance to make myself look for the fool for asking for the 1,000th time and hope that people won't notice and just point me to a click because I'm a lazy-assed person?"
Almost EVERY past and current WT issue has already been asked and answered. The only things left are their future blunders. Now, Barbara Anderson still has a few tricks up her sleeve with regards to ancient WT history, but that is about it.

Thanks for the link Farkel. I have read the article by Alan Feuerbacher. The same link was posted earlier in the thread also, but I appreciate your comments.
I engaged in tertiary studies in Earth Sciences back in the 70's . . . but still managed to shelve all that good learning to accommodate a 25 year ride on the crazy train.
It's a pet interest nowadays, so I am interested in additional facts. I guess I just like to drag this one out periodically and kick it around for a while. It tends to drag out the genuine lazy assholes who haven't bothered to dig any deeper than to believe the half-arsed bullshit the "creation-scientist" community specialise in. Debating this subject periodically might open some minds . . . possibly. Aside from that it's an easy argument to kick Biblio-Scientific bums with.
Alan F's article is comprehensive and sound. Being written from the JW perspective guilds it in gold for the XJW. It's interesting to hear he is a personal friend . . . be sure to thank him for me if you get the chance. It's a great article.
Anyone interested in the subject should read it.

Hi OLDIE FARKEL, you really are a miserable old sod, cheer up , enjoy life, get out more, you sound like our self appointed genius eegnog. Why have a forum in the first place, if our quest for knowledge is going to be thwarted or ridiculed by people like you ? why not let others have a view, and share there own perspectives ? Are you ever wrong ? do you ever consider some people just might just find YOUR platitudes and put downs rude.
Anyway, getting back on topic,In 1993, naval achitects and structional engineers from the world class KRISPO research facility in Korea, concluded that the Arks proportions were near optimal, they further cocluded that the ratio of the Ark(30 by 5 by 3) turns out to be the perfect design to prevent capsizing in rough seas.
The size of the Ark, would also have enabled an est 40,000 air breathing animals could be housed on one of the three decks, leaving the other two decks for foodstuffs ect.
Another intristing point I found doing reasearch, was that Chinese treasure junks, some even bigger than the Ark and also made of wood were built in the 15th century, with similar dimensions to the Ark.
I just dont think we have enough evidence to rule the Ark as myth, easpecially, as this project would have the backing of Jehovah

Thanks for introducing the Continental Drift aspect BP. I believe the plethora of evidence now accumulated about this phenomenon propels it beyond the theory stage.
Many rock types, both metamorphic and sedimentary, have a distinctive composite make-up . . . much like a fingerprint. This makes matching common sources to be established with certainty. Granites are a good example. We have here in South Island NZ a seam of granite at the south end of the island which ends abruptly at the Great Alpine Fault. The same seam emerges from the fault at the northern end . . . some 450 km's away. This 450 km shift is estimated to have occurred over the past 30M years drastically changing the shape of NZ in the process.
Mid-ocean spreading is also an observable and measurable feature . . . powered by heat convection within the molten mantle, driving continental drift and demonstrating how ancient sea floors become land, mountains etc . . . as you pointed out. Continental drift is indeed the reason why evidence of previous climatic conditions are reflected in the geological history.

If you believe the story of Noahs Ark and the Global Flood are factual, historical events just ask yourself one question;
'Do I have faith?'The answer is always 'yes', and therein lies the problem. When you can grasp the significance of that, when you understand that your faith is not an aid but a hindrance to understanding, then and only then, can you legitimately enter into something called RATIONAL DEBATE.

the prisoner No6 . . . Farkels grumpiness aside . . . your post simply establishes that Noah (and countless others) knew how to build a sea-worthy boat. Many ancients knew this as their existence relied on such knowledge . . . in Noahs case having lived for six hundred years, he had plenty of time to work out such a simple engineering exercise.
40,000 animals is not enough considering there are 250,000 known species today . . . not including the Arthropods for which you can add another 900,000 known, and possibly another 5,000,000 uncatalogued . . . the majority of arthropods are not equipped to survive an event akin to the Biblical flood. The Ark may not be a myth . . . but it's role in a Biblical world-wide deluge is.

I have faith in the laws of Physics, and stress mechanics and the scienfiic method, no other beliefs preclude me from having a view on wheather the Ark existed or not, scientifically it could have existed,it would have been a viable vessel if built along the lines outlined in the bible, thats just my belief, what other people chose to believe is up to them
