So, if the above excerpt is true, her terminal status caused a judge to force further care. A Canadian judge is not the WTBTS.
I'm not saying there is no merit or pathos here. Courts are going to be ever wary of glibly applying liability for religoius beliefs and practice.
Law is not synonymous with justice. There are too many process rules. Public opinion is the place to strike down the Watchtower. Most people would think that a seventeen year old is one year short of being adult and making their own decisions. Informing them of the overreaching the WT does to ensure complaince withi its blodd doctrine is more important in my view. Any damages, if granted, would be nominal,b/c she was terminal.
I had a very chilling experience which was nothing next to this. When I developed extreme facial pain, my doctors fought with each other. They overreached. My dentist wanted to discuss my gun problems with me. I was getting cocaine without being told what it was. I just wanted to please all and get well. No one told me it was incurable. Dentists aren't used to doing that to someone. Good girl me ended up on my couch, unable to function. One doctor was hated by everyone in my life. My friends, family, and employer, other doctors. A very close friend who was a lawyer called to announce I was quitting and to never, ever call me. He would engage in any further communications on my behalf. He called from one of the most elite and powerful firms. I cried with relief and noted the money that call would cost. It did no good. Overreaching is a great topic to discuss.
