The Gospel of Christ must be taken as a WHOLE and not just cherry picked to lend weight to what we want it to say.
Of course, even I do that, LMAO !

I do my very best to avoid being a hypocrite, and I am happy if someone points out to me how I am being one so that I can change, or explain. So I need you to be more specific in exactly how I am showing hypocrisy.
Thanks,
Tammy
okay I take that back psac and tammy.
the fact is psac to me this is not clear at all as you suggest
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, o what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. |
the above sounds more like it is suggesting indifference on God's part rather than love - god makes his sun rise on the evil and the good.
The perfection recommended in the verses above seem to foster a sort of detachment from real life imo. The emotions of love and hate are both healthy emotions - it is what we do with our hate that can result in badness. Furthermore there is much reward in loving those who love you and in hating your enemy. It means that one can break off from an unhealthy relationship and start a fresh. Also if one does not hate where does one find the impetus to act in self preservation or in perservation of those weaker than oneself?
perahps a verses like the above can be contemplated as a remote ideal rather than applicable in real life. Sometimes the ideal may come closer whereas at other times it can seem far off. And as we contemplate we can notice the inherent errors and problems in the applocation of these ideals.
Why do so many here think that poison and pure water are the same, that a counterfeit bill is the same as a genuine bill in the eyes of God and government? Why do people think 2+2=4 and 5 at the same time?
Many of the things we are discussing are not reducible to simple math. You left the JWs, good, but it appears that you still think a lot like one.
We should all be students and learn from each other. We should also understand our differences. However, when our fruit is the spread of intolerance and hatred, we need to ask ourselves what the source is. Is this the Holy Spirit or is this Satan?
And yes, this applies to Atheists too.
Having/needing someone to hate is one of man's baser instincts. We seek a clear enemy. Leaders with no ethics often make use of this flaw. They incite hatred of a group or person, and claim absolute truth. They use hate as a way to unify others under their own rule. It's difficult to get a lot of people to love you, but it's easy to get a lot of people to hate another. Fanning the flames of a common passion is a manipulative tactic used by those that want to rule others.
Disagreements among people are unavoidable. There are some real and important differences between X-JWs, even among those that are Christians. Discussion among and between these groups can either be edifying or destructive. The outcome will depend on the attitude and spirit of the participants.

Matthew 10:34&35 Yeah, I know what you are talking about. My answer is the same. Do you think that this sword is perhaps the same one that comes out of his mouth in Revelations? Unless we're thinking he's biting the hilt of a sword and tossing his head around, it means something other than a physical, literal sword. |
revelation is a different genre and written at a different time. Jesus was being very direct at Matthew 10:34&35 and there was a lot of partisanship going on at the time. Why would he say something so risky to his disciples if he adamantly intended not to suggest taking up arms to fight for one's side.
edit: my computer time is all gone now for today
dear Curtains...
you said: "perahps a verses like the above can be contemplated as a remote ideal rather than applicable in real life."
...2 peter1:1-11...
Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, youwill be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
love michelle
p.s. also if you would read my above post 2035 perhaps you can see where individuals who belong to Jesus would be "set against" those who are not.
This is a brief depiction of Dominionism. Dominionism is a growing Christian movement that advocates a theocracy in the United States. It has ties to major evangelists and politicians like Newt Gingrich. It would truly be a place where "God" rules.
Watch till the end and see what they have in store for this nation.

godrulz stated:
I already know I am fat and ugly.
Perhaps this statement explains why he is harsh with people on this forum. ...He is harsh with himself!
Godrulz, have you ever thought about loving your Self first? Then it would be easy for you to find love for others. Matthew 5:6 says, "Happy are those hungering and thirsting for righteousness, since they will be filled." What religion fails to explain is it is not possible to help others from an empty cup. Take for example, when on an airplane and you hear the spiel about what to do in an emergency. The instructions are to put the oxygen mask over your own face first; then you will be able to help your child or someone else in need. If you are the one without the oxygen mask, you will die.
The point is, we cannot serve another if our own cup is empty. If, on the other hand, your cup is filled to overflowing, then you will not deplete yourself when extending a hand to help another.
To religious patriarchs I would ask the question, "Why did I NEVER hear this little-known explanation when I was a member of the JW-christian flock?" It was considered "selfish" if we thought of ourself first. I don't believe that any more.
Food for thought...
