the whole subject is a dogs breakfast here too doofdaddy just as it is to the WTS, I'm sure.
mind you if the public get hold of something then politicians and police forces have to give it a higher profile on their agenda.

Broken promises . . .
And people wonder why some get the idea of an apostate heirarchy.
Indeed . . . a very odd post you refer to. And your point is valid.
This "let's all hail so-and-so" is getting on my nerves . . . an American thing?
GEEEEZ......... What is wrong with you guys.... criticizeing mr Unthank for bringing this to Australian Govt. attention??...Jesus Christ!!! who`s side are you on ??
If it gets attention in Govt circles, which it has done ,is this not a good thing ? The crux of the matter here is the WTB&TS snubs it`s nose at Victorian laws!! They should be accountable .... as every other organization complies with this direction to date . If you have a problem in the way mr. Unthank has presented his case ,maybe you should look at B .Andersons explanation of why he chose to word his presentation the way he did. But the fact is he`s got the attention of the Govt. representatives>>> What have we done....Sweet F.A. ...You dont have to support mr Unthank...but you owe it to the children of Jehovah`s Witnesses and every other child to support his principles in protecting children
smiddy

Another unusual post . . . perhaps you've been reading another thread there smiddy? . . . or perhaps you need to be more specific. I see nobody here in opposition to this as you seem to have perceived. What you go on to say is the substance of what is being said here already. ???
Yup
All getting unnecessarily nasty here. Steven has taken two steps to draw attention to the WTS's contempt for the law. Barbara has simply drawn attention to it. I don't see the need for personal attacks. It's for a good cause.
The Act is a dog's breakfast and is difficult to police. At best, there will be recommendations to tighten the Act.
For those that are not Australian (and maybe some Australians):
An "Inquiry" is nothing more than that - an inquiry. All those who make submissions (such as Stephen Unthank) are heard, but it is not like a court case, where judgements are made. The information is given, the official overseeing the inquiry may make suggestions as to what needs to be done (ie laws may need to be changed, a Royal Commission may be suggested) but that is all.
We can hope that getting the subject of child abuse in the JW religion mentioned in this Inquiry may give it some attention. But don't expect anything BIG to come from this. No one involved, including Barbara Anderson and Stephen Unthank are lawmakers. All they are doing is drawing attention to the plight of abused children. This is just a small step towards... well, we'll have to wait and see.
BP, I agree. It's routine practice for governments to set up inquiries, appoint ex-judges, let them prepare reports .... and then ignore their findings. Steven's submission seems only obliquely related to the main focus of the inquiry, which is the neglect of children supposedly protected by the Department of Human Services, which is chronically underfunded and the subject of repeated scandals. However both the Justice Department and VicPol are aware of the WTS's contempt for the law, and by highlighting the issue in a public arena Steven may help to at least keep it on their radar.
Mr M . . . the level of media attention and public awareness will be an element.
