When You Left The Organization Were False Rumors Being Circulated About You?

I had a completely unfounded and nasty rumor started by my spouse’s family. How did we find out about it? One of my spouse’s siblings actually called us to express concern!!!!!! Maybe there is hope for that one sibling who actually cared enough to try and help instead of just gossiping about what happens to those that leave the cult's "spiritual protection". We quickly informed her that the rumor was 100% false, and we were in fact very happy and doing quite well. I imagine her cognitive dissonance must have increased a little after that conversation.

Which makes me wonder, is the starting of rumors by JW's about those that leave simply an expected byproduct of JW's trying to maintain a psychological balance between what they've been taught and actual reality? If a JW leaves the organization and doesn't become miserable out in the “world” it could be psychologically unsettling to those JW’s still trapped inside the group.

There were false rumours circulating about me before I left the Organization™. I didn't expect them to stop, and in fact, they got juicier once we left.

Rumours about Mr Scully and I being divorced, about me going to school and getting an education because I was too smart for my own good, and, horror of horrors , that I administer blood transfusions and blood products to patients where I work.

Well, that last one is true, but who am I to prevent someone from having a medical treatment that they give informed consent for, and is in their best interests? And what farking business is it of JWs what medical treatments other people have??

They have to demonize us in order to keep the delusion going.

I think there may be some subconscious jealously involved in this. Deep down they wish it was them, but dissonance forces them to find a negative perspective so they can rationalise themselves staying in.

Like kids bickering over sweets, someone takes your favorite one and in your disappointment you rationalise it away by saying "I didn't want that one anyway".

There's probably rumours going about me, but since I've only stopped going since January I haven't heard them yet. I've had 2 phone calls and a note that's it, but then I'd have liked none.

    RUMOR:

    1. A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth.2. Unverified information received from another; hearsay.

A rumor by definition is false, at least until verified. And really, arnt unverified rumors of what those nasty apostates are doing now that they dont love the Orginization anymore a whole lot more fun?

Only one I heard was that I was DF'd. I guess that when they announce from the platform that someone is no longer a witness everyone assumes the person was DF'd. I mean why would anyone DA? I wouldn't be surprised if there were rumors floating around about why they thought I was DF'd, although I never did anything that would have warranted a JC.
