This year the LDS/Mormons had a booth in the exhibits building of the local county fair, included were pictures touting well known people who are mormons ... among the prominentaly displayed that I remember were Mitt Romney, Glenn Beck, Marie Osmond and Orrin Hatch.
Has anyone else noticed all the advertizing the Mormons are starting to do.

I guess a JW version would be pretty redundant.

Band on the Run
Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, is a Mormon? I read the NYT daily and never saw a single reference. Hatch I kind of knew b/c he was so conservative. I am Eastern centered. A Nevada Senator or Utah Senator does not bother me the way a local politican would.
I live near Philadelphia and have not noticed ads. NY makes sense as the media market. Oh, please, are we so stupid as to believe there is no linkage between Romney';s candidacy and the ads. What a nice coincidence for Romney.

Yes, I've seen those ads, especially on YouTube whenever I access my account, and they creep me out....
Having a member of a cult as the President of the United States is a very BAD idea, especially when one looks at how the Mormon church has ALREADY been meddling in politics - fighting against the Equal Rights Amendment - their financial support for the opposition was probably a deciding factor in its defeat; and their anti-gay-marriage campaigning in California which succeeded in eliminating a law that REAL Californians had already passed...!!
I seriously doubt that a man as highly-placed in the Mormon church as Mitt Romney is, would be able to resist the influence of his church's leaders on social and political issues...
Think of it this way - do you think that a typical District Overseer, if elected to the office of president, would make political decisions totally free and clear of his religious upbringing - and the influence of the Governing Body??? [If Watchtower Corporation suddenly decided to 'go political'...]

You are right about it being kinda of scary having someone from a cult being in the White House. I know the Mormons do not consider themselves a cult anymore than the JW's do but we you look at both religions they are so much alike in so many ways.
I cannot even begin to think how horrible it would be to have one of the CO's or DO's as a leader of this country. God help us if that were to happen.
The only thing I have to say is that the Mormons do seem to have stronger families then any JW I have known. The Mormons I have worked with have always been extremely nice to me. Maybe they were trying to convert me but they have been nicer to work with and around then any JW. Even when I was in and a supper strong JW I felt that way.

Hilarious!
I know what they could do, show a guy washing window's who stops and smiles at the camera and says I am a Jehovah's Witnesses.
I noticed the increase advertising too. The ad with black guy confuses me because I thought black people could never make it to the top level of heaven in the Mormon religion.
Also, they've started passing out leaflets about Jesus and Mormons. Definitely seems like they are trying to seem more mainstream.

Last night I had to work late so I was watching TV around 10:00 pm my time and I stayed up until after Jay Leno was over, there must have been at the least six adds on TV about the Mormons
I really wonder if this is going to give the JW's a run for their money. I mean the Mormons are truly trying to look main stream, very normal and trying to just help people, etc.
They showed on guy who was in his 20's and he said he had this really horrible life until he found God and the Mormons and now he is life is so wonderful and they showed this great family behind him, ect.
JW's just do not have it, even if they wanted to, every family I know in the JW's are strange, they either have someone DF'ed in them who is being shunned, or they are just shunning because hey they just don't like the dude. They are truly falling apart. One of the elders in the hall my husband goes to now, his brother-in-law committed suicide about five or six years ago. This guy had been raised in the truth by an elder dad and the rummer that is going around is he was molesting his nice and he could not take the fact that it might come out. The family maintains that is NOT TRUE but man with all that I have seen I truly wonder. And that is just one of the elders in the hall. Familes not speaking to each other because of shunning even if they are not DF'ed is very common like I said. My sister is that way toward me, even when I was an active JW and a pioneer and an elder's wife she shunned me along with her halls PO's COBE's wife because they did not like me. We grew up in a very abusive home and this COBE's wife got really involved with my parents after I had grown up and moved away. She took my parents side against me and said I brought the abusive on me because I was truly a horrible baby. What ever.
The whole JW thing is just so extremely crazy that there is truly no way they could ever do what the Mormons are now in trying to paint themselves as happy families.

The Mormon's have been working for a very long time to make themselves look more mainstream. For what its worth, they are VERY unlike JWs in a lot of ways. They encourage school and participation in the community at large.
Alfred, I don't know the extent to which the church itself is involved, but Mormon churches are hotbeds of MLM schemes. I've done some research on it, Utah has the highest level of MLM involvement in the country.
Ziddina, change "Mormon" to "Roman Catholic" and you'd have a lot of what was said about JFK in 1960.
