so recently i realized again via nutjob cults in the news that when you predict the end of world and fail...some people notice...and you have to cover your ass and say something happened invisibly right?...sounds familar i know...

so i tell wife to from now on knock on doors and say "Hi, im one of jehovahs witnesses and even though we predicted for one hundred and forty consecutive years that the world would end in the twentieth century...i would still like you to accept my free home bible study"

of course i cant even get her to look inside an awake cover from before 1995 where indeed it says this....and prior to 19OO russell preached the end would occur in 1914 starting in 1874 i believe and that jesus had already come invisibly of course

and then i realizied that the scripture is so simple it does not need interpretation...."nobody can know the day nor hour...not even the son" or something like that...so isnt it ironic that the entire basis for this religion as founded by russell was for that EXACT SAME REASON!!!!.....he wanted everybody in the world to know that he had "figured it out"....even though god said that would not ever happen???!!!?!?!?!? WTF???...why had i never thought of that before????....total oxymoran....

and still they think that think god would pick them as his chosen people in 1919 or whatever when not only were they saying jesus had already come...and predicted armageddon in 1914, plus their rapture....when the bible says nobody can know the day nor hour?...knock yourself out cults.....oompa

and soon i will ask her if somehow she has grieved the holy spit because she has never had a bible study in 15 years for sure...and maybe never????....i mean three days a week and nada???

OOMPA, you're trying to REASON with her. That just won't work. They are not open to reason.

But I like the "no bible study in 15 years" strategy.

Obviously NO holy spirit working with her in the ministry.

    Good luck.

If your dear wife hasn't had a single Bible study in 15 years, dear Oompa (peace to you!)... it's because SHE isn't convinced as to their "truth". If she were, she wouldn't SETTLE for no studies. She isn't convinced... and so, she fears (knows?) that she won't be able to convince anyone else. She can't explain it all. It doesn't all make sense to HER.

She resists YOUR attempts, however, because, like so many, she believes that leaving the WTBTS will result in her leaving God. Because no one... not even you... has shown her were ELSE to go. So, she would rather stay there... and muddle through, even if in a fog... than "leave" God... altogether. Which is the choice YOU'RE giving her.

It pains me that some don't see this... don't see that wanting someone to share your beliefs... OR YOUR LACK OF BELIEFS... can, if it's not able to allow that the other WON'T so believe/disbelieve... be selfish, unkind, and unloving. That's why christians are admonished to win their spouses "without a word"... but instead by YOUR conduct.

When all you can see, however, is your own belief... or lack thereof... this truly is no different from the WTBTS. Because you offer NO OTHER OPTION... even if the person NEEDS another option.

Have you considered asking your dear wife WHY she is in the WTBTS, given that she's had no Bible Studies? Ask her, "Don't you BELIEVE what they teach? If so, then why aren't YOU 'making disciples'? What's holding you back/stopping you?" Then perhaps offer to HELP her "understand" what the WTBTS teaches. In THAT way, perhaps you can also help her see their inconsistencies, discrepancies, back tracking, false prophesies, etc.

Just my $0.02... which I hope will help. If not, please know it was offered in love, truly!

    Again, peace to you!

    A slave of Christ,

    Just a comment on cult behaviour when predictions fail;

The very committted get past their disappointment and blame themselves for their error.

They then praise God that their prediction failed and more people get to join them (or their faith saved millions of others etc.,).

It is a rare person that steps back and analyses dispassionately what went wrong.

The very heading of the mag.says it all buddy from 1879 "Zions Watchtower & Herald of Christs Presence"

When did they discard the beleif in the Zionist movement(,well after Russells death)

And if their heralding christs presence from 1879;it means he must have appeared invisibly b4 hand (1874 )

@ Oompa, who suggested this presentation, "Hi, im one of jehovahs witnesses and even though we predicted for one hundred and forty consecutive years that the world would end in the twentieth century...i would still like you to accept my free home bible study"

I love that presentation. It's what all of JWs would be saying if they were honest about their religion.

@ AGuest, who said, "If your dear wife hasn't had a single Bible study in 15 years... it's because SHE isn't convinced as to their "truth". If she were, she wouldn't SETTLE for no studies."

Truer words were never spoken, IMHO. Many JWs, I feel, are simply going through motions because it's become their way of life. Perhaps, in part, because of what Oompa's remark above illustrates...that they know they've made false predictions even if they don't admit it, and many are sick to death of it themselves...they don't believe it anymore. But they can't let go because it would mean developing a whole new life, and that isn't easy. They simply stick with what they know, but their heart is no longer in it. For the supposed 1 1/2 billion hours put into the field ministry annually, the amount of increase is pathetic.

Scenic viewer your words r so true....there have been times when my exhaustive efforts....foolish efforts...but one in a blue moon I see a look on her face...or see a hard long pause when I think her synapses r about to click and something sink in or take hold....but then she spouts out some lame party line...or worse...kmuch worse guys...i get to see something I never want to see again....something I am almost ashamed to have seen and to have contributed to..

I have recently seen my over fifty year old quite intelligent wife walk or run away from me with Her fingers in her ears....and you already know what she is saying over and over....eyes closed....right before that frightened tearful face of her contorts and is about to explode....as she is about to be forced to admit that ANYYTHING might be even a tiny bit off...she knows she still has the truth and a helper at that moment as she runs away...eyes closed mostly....fingers in her ears yelling out... "Jehovah help me!! Jehovah help me!! Jehovah help me!!".......

Thats right....it has happenened three times in the past month or so and I promise it will never happen again....i cant do this to her anymore....it makes me physically sick to see...that she then fears me like Satan himself....and so I am starting very very complicated seperation and settlement proceedings that will finally end this unevenly yoked marriage and it will effect the lives of so many other jws entwined so much in our daily business life...freedom is very expensive for both of us....maybe all of us.......thanks all....oompa
