    TAI, palmtree67-

Thanks for the feedback. Like I said I have interests on both sides of this issue. The Environmental and Political action groups I belong to (yea! its great to be an xJW) are having a series of meetings over the next several weeks.

Is Canada putting any pressure on China or selling technology to improve its industrial waste.

    Pressure on China regarding what?

The Chinese are salivating over our oil.

I'm baffled as to why Americans are outraged over Canadian oil, but have had no concern about buying oil from ethically irresponsible countries. (Human rights violators, countries with extremely poor safety records (( eg: Nigeria )), and countries who have no concern about the environment.....)

Also, the general consensus among Syncrude workers is that the company is not the same since Exxon got involved.

The atmosphere is more "money-grubbing" and their policies are archaic and difficult to work with.

The fear is now that the Americans are on board, everything that has been accomplished environmentally, etc, will be set back.

Personal vent: I wish people would stop calling them "tar sands". When you do that, it indicates that you are ignorant of what you're even talking about. Tar is a product of distilled coal. It is bitumen in Alberta: a thick oil.

If there is a case for pushing ahead with the Keystone pipeline this is the time to do it. It appears that the USA imports 22,000 barrels of Canadian oil per day according to one report which get Refined in the Midwest Refineries. Petro/China, Sinopec, China National, Japan, Korea are all taking financial stakes in the 'Bitumen Sands'.

Maybe you Canadians have a comment on the Forest Ethics campaign which Bed Bath and Beyond and Whole Foods Markets signed on with to speak against the Bitumen Sands, our Pentagon is also scaling back on purchases from these sources in Canada.

Don't take this as an attack these are the exact issues and debates we are having in our Activist organizations and the things the American public are going to be hearing through the news-media.

    This is getting annoying now.

Please read the previous thread I started. It addressed that very issue at length.

The U.S. imports much more oil than that per day from Canada. Canadian oils sands crude sells at a premimum to most oil due to it being a "sweet crude" (little sulfur), as opposed to the U.S. importing large amounts of "sour crude" (high sulfur content) from other countries.

palmtree- Catch up kid, this is about the current Protest at the White House bringing this issue to the front of our Voters. Post what you like on the subject but we aren't going back to your thread unless you bring it current to the USA Protests.

TAI- So do you think the Keystone pipeline will significantly increase the volume of oil brought to the Refiners here, more than current transportation methods.

2-BE the Solvent used in Fracturing has shown up in Wells in Pavillion Wy.. Encana, whom China has a large financial stake in, operates Wells in the area. Two things are being done at present- Encana, while denying responsibility, is trucking water to the residences and people are being asked to 'open the windows, and ventilate their homes when taking showers etc..

Solvents and Emulsifiers will be a part of the Mix for the oil that travels through the proposed Keystone Pipeline as is the mix for other existing pipelines. Are there engineering, chemical, and safety solutions to mitigate these known toxic substances, or is Risk/Reward the argument that will prevail on whether the Pipeline goes into construction.

One of the recent Engineering concerns with the Keystone Pipeline has been the quality of Pipe used by TransCanada who has been purchasing Pipe from India. TransCanada has experienced 12 pipeline ruptures recently.

Can part of the deal for the Keystone designate USA made and designated lifespans for the pipe. To many current suppliers are not maintaining what is already in the ground or running overland.

The Keystone Pipeline has been put on the front burner by the Senate with its inclusion in the payroll tax negotiations.

2010, Canada rated 1st in safety with 11 pipeline ruptures, the US reported 346 pipeline ruptures. What should be stagering news every night is Russia's disaster of an oil industry, in 2010 they had 17,000 pipeline ruptures and spill into Rivers and and Land the equivalent of the Gulf Oil Spill every 2 months. This is Russia's yearly average of oil disasters going back through more than a decade of records, 5 million tons annually is spilled. And now Russia wants to drill for oil in Canada's back yard, since they share arctic waters.
