Is Field Service really a Commandment?

Heard something strange last week. A speaker in the congregation said that you must preach. He stated that this is a commandment.

I was wondering, if the Society has ever printed it that way. I have heard that it was a voluntary sacrifice. Has anyone ever read it from the publications that way?

I thought it was a sacrifice of lips...a voluntary offering.

I do see how it has been spun to read as a commandment in the publications. But the scriptures says that we are commanded to love one another, but when that law is broken we are not under threat of punishment. I guess that is why the inactive are not punished.

I could see field service in the future as a requirement. This religion will become more focused, narrow, and hard core as time moves on. Simply attending and throwing in a few 15 minute slips won't be enough.

Quarterback, ask them to show you the Biblical scripture that states it is a commandment. I bet they can't do it.

I asked my Mom to show me the scripture that states going door-to-door handing out Watchtower and Awake! magazines is necessary for salvation/eternal life (like she said it was). She wasn't able to do that either.

Try announcing at the KH that you've decided not to do it any more because it's optional...

LOL, well Ding, somethings are best not being vocal about. Like, what you plan to do when entering the washroom...like, what you plan to do with that kleenex when you pull it out of your pocket. I'm sure the silent approach works well, in this.
