Has anyone seen a scripture indicating that the average member of the early christian congregations engaged in the same preaching activity as the apostles did or that they used printed publications to explain Gods Word ?

By printing all these publications, JW's are indicating that reading God's word the Bible isn't a good enough way to know God. It must be broken down by men who think they know what it is saying better than you do. God's holy spirit isn't powerful enough to open your eyes to his message wihtout their aid in the matter.

Many have said "you can't be a Jehovah's Witnessess and not witness about him"--(going out in service)

    • jv 570-571 House-to-House Preaching —An Identifying Mark

At various times other religious groups have encouraged their members to call on the homes of people in their community to talk about religion. Some individuals have tried it. Certain ones may even do it as missionaries for a couple of years, but that is the end of it. However, it is only among Jehovah’s Witnesses that virtually all, young and old, male and female, participate year in, year out, in the house-to-house ministry. It is only Jehovah’s Witnesses who truly endeavor to reach all the inhabited earth with the Kingdom message, in obedience to the prophetic command at Matthew 24:14.

SW, that's interesting. I know that it is written in the book of Acts, that the Apostles were witnesses of Jesus. However, they stated such because they literally were eye witnesses of Jesus' life, and ministry, and message. We adopted that name Jehovah's Witnesses in the 30's. The apostles were not called Jehovah's Witnesses.

EYZ, In the book of Acts, it mentions that they they increased as time went on. However, it was the Apostles that took the lead in the Preaching work. Later on in Eph 3: 11 it states that some had different gifts in the readjustment of the congregations. "Evangelizer", was such a gift. Not everyone had that gift.

    Edited:

To the Org it REALLY doesn’t matter what the scriptures say...just how they can spin it and use it to their advantage. We were conditioned not to question them, only to obey. To question them = not trusting in Jehovah.

    • QB... So how can we be Jw's? Jesus was Jehovah's Witness…We have not been an Eye-witness to anything Jehovah has done.

Thats true, it really isn't about truth. It;s about present truth and quick! find the scriptures to back it.

There is no scripture that comes right out and says, "Only those who formally conduct a public ministry by going house-to-house shall inherit the kingdom of God." There are scriptures that someone could interpret and impy that such a thing were true. That is what the evil empire has done.

Like some many other man made rules the evil empire has made, a required formal ministry to gain salvation is based on the "prophetic commandment" of Jesus in Matthew chapters 24 and 28. In addition there is the blood guilty argument based on the Old Testment passages that is you didn't warn someone then their blood was on your hands. The last argument is the "example" argument. That is to say, "Jesus and his disciples did it. So, we have to do it, too."

People do a lot better with "Thou shall not kill," but even then they mess that one up, too. So, it is a lot of drawing conclusions based on the earthly understanding of imperfect men. However, there is one big item of note we are missing.

When Jesus and his disciples conducted their ministry they did so by going where the people were (i.e. not knocking on the doors of empty houses) and they only used the scriptures. The evil empire is all about selling their books. Remember, the WTB&TS is a publishing company that's sole existance is based on printing religous materials.

For those who are still in the evil empire, ask yourselves this: "How would my local body of elders react if I made it known that I would no longer attempt to place the printed materials of the WTB&TS with the public in my door-to-door ministry and would only use my Bible?"
