well belive it or not there are other religions that are much more hard core than JW's. There's Christians out there that don't dance, wear red, or perhaps anything that us from outside their social group, marry only in the religion... etc etc. With JW's, they will need to contunually figure out who is in, and who is out. Fence sitters eventually will get purged. The service arrangement is a classic way of proving u still drink the kool aid. They semi use it now as a basis for spirituality

If I have managed to do this correctly ... this terrific but wordy composition will tell you all you need to know about Field Service!

    Quarterback, if so, counter with:

James 3:1: "Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly." NLV 2007

WH. Good point. I do think that the ORG is worried about Perception though. If the newspapers printed that JW's are punished for not doing FS, they would have worse problems.

    Heaven, good comeback, but..

They will support that by saying that it applies to the teaching positions in the church....not outside...after all women are not permitted to teach in the cong.

If a JW gets hurt out in field service and tries to sue the WT corp, their lawyers will show the court that JW preaching is done by volunteers.

A JW has a choice= stop being an unpaid volunteer. JWs have no membership dues to pay - Why?- all to avoid any contractual membership relationship with the WT Corporation.

    That's a good point, Moshe.

It is stated here w88 8/15 20 as a requirement: Using Matt 24:14 and 28:19,20...

Exerting Ourselves in the Field w88 8/15 20

17 For many, though, the greatest challenge is fulfilling the Christian commission to preach the good news. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) Some have but a minimal share in the field service, perhaps arguing that the pressures of earning a living and raising a family make it difficult for them to do more. Granted, the pressures of “the last days” are formidable. (2 Timothy 3:1) Jesus, however, warned against becoming ‘weighed down with anxieties of life.’ As conditions worsen, Christians should ‘raise themselves erect and lift their heads up.’ (Luke 21:28, 34) One of the best ways to “stand firm” against Satan’s attacks is to have our “feet shod with the equipment of the good news”—regularly sharing in preaching!—Ephesians 6:14, 15.

19 If we are not moved to preach, then our love for Jehovah and our trust in him is little more than mental awareness. “Know the God of your father and serve him with a complete heart,” David exhorted Solomon, “for all hearts Jehovah is searching, and every inclination of the thoughts he is discerning.” (1 Chronicles 28:9) Jehovah is not fooled by lukewarm efforts. Even a regular share in field service does not satisfy him if we offer only a mere token of what we could do if we were ‘exerting ourselves vigorously.’ (Luke 13:24) Each Christian must thus make an honest appraisal of his share in the field service and ask himself: ‘Am I really doing all I can?’ Perhaps adjustments in our priorities need to be made.

I've seen the issue of agency brought up alot, especially in court. This is where the WT fails as everything is directed by Bethel, but they're seperate, right. Sooner or later this organization will crawl back into the woodwork and most of it's doctrines won't be for the public. There's plenty of those type of religions floating around and the WT will join them

Why did Jesus get baptised by John the Baptiser? Because baptism was an act in defiance to the corrupt Israelite priesthood full of needless man made "works." It was supposed to act as a replacement for burdensome Jewish rituals and it ripped the power from the corrupt religious leaders of the day and placed it soley within the choice of the individual. Christ through water and spirit.

That's why, in Matthew, he commanded people to preach and to baptize: to move away from man, not towards him! The commandment is to baptize, for said reasons, not how to baptize.
